OK, I have version 1.1:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxUTXhu-XPR6TkFPREFPaW5Qdjg/view?usp=sharing

It has the following changes:

  • Changed Elf base characteristics to Will 1 and Pr 2.
  • Updated the Second Nature talent to read: “Select a spell tree. When rolling Initiative, you may add ss . You must take the first PC slot to cast that spell.”
  • Added the Adventurer Universal specialization.
  • Made minor adjustments to talent connections in several paths.
  • Fixed several typos.
  • Added an initial adversary section to include the following enemies:
    • Goblins
    • Warg
    • Orcs
    • Orcish Chieftain
    • Red Dragon (First pass on the dragon, I know it is going to need updating- based loosely on a weird combination of Hutt and Rancor)

I am also editing the first post in this thread to the new link.

Thanks for any feedback.

Looks fine. I think you could just go more generic dragon and giants and such personally, no need to overdue it and if someone needs it to be more D&D and less WH or LOTRs they could sub damage types and such. Same with giants as far as I'm concerned, I like my giants more WH or GoTs personally.

Haven't finished reading it yet, but it has made me put serious thought into using a customized variant for my Dawn of Humanoids setting.

The basic idea of the setting is that it is set during the twilight of the Australopithecus, ~1.75-2 mya. The "magic"-lite version of EotE actually works well for the setting, and with some career and specialization tweaks it should be perfect!

Thanks for the inspiration!

OK, so I am currently still working on:

  • More adversaries
  • Adjusting the Equipment List

Anyone else have any suggestions or things they might like to see?

Do you plan on making a character sheet for this conversion?

I hadn't thought about that, but yes, I will add it to my list. Anyone know if there is any inexpensive software that can be used to add auto calculations for skills to a PDF? I know how to do that for excel, but I know most prefer a PDF file, and I don't have adobe.

I could probably add it as an expansion for oggdude's character generator as well. But that would be a lot of work, so I'd like to see if there is any interest in that first.

Very cool. My friend and I started work on something similar over the summer where we grafted the SW narrative dice system into D&D5E, much of the basics was very close to what you have here. We stopped when we playtested it and, though we thought it was fun, it didn't feel very much like D&D any more :)

Anyway I think you're done an excellent job here. The only thing I would do differently is probably shake the races up a bit more. You've got 3 or so that all have high brawn, 2 of them with 1 agility. I'd like to see more to differentiate them, maybe even at least one race (or subrace) with a 3 for each stat. For instance, in D&D (at least 5E), dragonborn also have +1 charisma; perhaps here they could be 3 presence instead of 3 brawn? (or maybe a sub-race of them have that). Or do it like 5E does, when you pick dragonborn, you choose either 3 1 2 2 2 2 or 2 1 2 2 2 3. You could do the same for elves (high vs wood elves) and dwarves (mountain vs hill or whatever). Maybe gnomes have 3 cunning. I dunno, just seems like an area where a little more variety might be nice.

Thanks for the feedback! I have been considering doing the subraces. I hadn't thought about just offering a choice of a couple arrays though. It's a good idea, but may be too big of a departure from the FFG rule set.

Perhaps do the subraces with some different options. That would also let me do some differentiation with some skills as some others have suggested.

I might also suggest a different route for Elves, or at least High Elves - go 2,2,3,3,3,3, and drop the exp accordingly.

That feels way more Tolkieny to me...

and again, I'd tack advantage and setback dice to a few skills for each race - they can really add flavor without as much balancing to consider as Stats.

I have created a couple of character sheets. The first is in Excel, is fillable and will calculate Dice Pools automatically. The sheet is protected, but with no password protected in case anyone wants to edit it somehow. I'm not sure how well it will work in Sheets, but it will work in Excel 2003 or later. Also, in order to display the dice pools correctly, you need the Edge of the Empire symbol font- I downloaded it from this board, and assume most of you have too. If you need a link to it, let me know.

The second is a blank pdf for printing and filling in at the table.
