Enhancing the Behemoths: Huge Ship House Rules

By Firespray-32, in X-Wing

Gladly, you start with everything fully charged, it's in the Epic Tournament FAQ under Deplyment Procedure.

Thanks for the pointer, found it in the steps.

" 6. Players place their small and large ships in ascending order of pilot skill

fully within Range 1–2 of their team edge.
7. Players assign Energy tokens to each of their Huge ships up to its
energy limit.
8. Players activate shields and prepare any special components they may
need, then begin the match following the rules presented in the X-Wing
Rules of Play. "

We had great, balanced epic games with the following house rules:

- Each side requires exactly one CR90 or Raider. Scum is using a hijacked CR90

This is not a very good deal if you chose to buy a GR75 instead of a CR90.

I guess when the Gozanti hits, we might go 350pts, resurrect the GR75 and allow to add a gun to keep it balanced.

Agreed! But the GR75 isn't ideally suited for a 300pts dog fight anyway as it doesn't have a real gun. After experimentig with all those fancy add-ons like Slicer Tool, I wasn't too impressed and sold mine.

If you think the GR75 needs a gun to be balanced, you're doing it wrong. :P

The trick is, it's epic, sure, but it's not very epic. Hell, you could probably very nearly run the things in 100pt games, but for all the extra Epic Rules attached.

It's not the centerpeice to the squad, but it can have some glorious implications... as always, just make sure you build it to do one job, and to do that job well.

That seems a poor reason to houserule it away. Such strategic decisions should be the prerogative of the player, especially because fielding a CR90 makes it very unlikely that a Transport will also be included.

How do you use it? Any success against a Raider in a 300pts dogfight?

I did not rule it away, I just sold it - and mine was the last one remaining in our group.

Absolutely, and trivially - you just fly an extra half-dozen B-wings for the points differential, and leave those to butcher the Raider while the Transport goes and does Transporty things. :P

That Jam action is fantastic. So's the Bright Hope's double-strength re-enforce action, if you set it up favourably for ramming lanes.

Oh, some of the cargo's are cool too, but it's assuredly not a damage dealing craft, so don't try. And it's never truly tough, so don't spend too much on it, either.

Now it may be that my lack of experience in epic play means that 5 points of huge ships is actually very viable, but at 120 points they scream for upgrades, i.e. more points.

Re: the Raider, I wish I could try such a game! My group mostly wants to play 100 pt. matches.

@Reiver, Lingula: Thanks for the feedback, definitely appreciated! Reading it, I am tempted to think that we will have to bring back to our group the GR75 once the Gozanti hits the table. :D

GR75 is especially death to a lot of Imperial acecraft: It can be an effective counter to Soontir, Vader, and Whisper all in one; that Jam action really is that unpleasant at hobbling the top ships, leaving them vulnerable at a bad time. With the 'enemy aces' having a legitimate threat dealt with, the rest of your fleet can focus on raw firepower, and tear everything down.

Or you can set it up as support for your own aces (Though, y'know, HWKs do that too), or as a battering ram...

Just rememember: The thing is fragile. Don't overdo it, and don't depend on it too much.
