Dutch Courage

By camelopardis, in CoC Rules Discussion

Hi Everybody!

I'm brand new to this game - I've only been able to play a couple of times, so I'm still working out how some stuff works and I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I haven't quite adjusted to how the game words certain cards.

Anyway, in one of the few games I've played the card "Dutch Courage" (f73) came up and my partner and I weren't exactly sure how it worked in play. The card text reads: " Item . Characters you control gain Toughness +1 ". Does this mean that the card is played like a location card and affects all of that player's characters? Or does it need to be attached to an individual character, because it's an item card?

It seems like it would apply to everyone based on the language of the text, but at the same time, it seems odd to have an item card that's unattached to a person (or creature).

Any help/clarification would be much appreciated. Thank You!

It is treated like a location in that it does boost all your characters. They all like a sip, even Cthulhu gran_risa.gif . DC is a Support card, but unlike cards that need to be played on a character, it does not have the "Attachment" keyword.

Thank you very much! That makes perfect sense.

I can understand humans passing around a bottle (i.e. Item ) to help them work up the gumption to take on eldritch horrors (maybe it should have provided Willpower instead of Toughness ), but I, for one, wouldn't want to take a sip of anything that had previously touched the lips of a Shoggoth or Ghoul! My condolences to any human characters in a mixed Syndicate-Mythos deck...

Simply that human is not capable of distinguishing a Shoggoth from a street lamp! lengua.gif

Keep in mind that any character that is wounded while Dutch Courage is in play gets a wound marker.
If Dutch courage is destroyed, any characters with wounds and without any way to survive wounds are removed from play.
