Society can only move as fast as its slowest walker. I think we should be able to drive as fast as we want! But Steve drove too fast and crashed into a tree .. Thanks Steve .. now we have to drive slow. I loved having BBQ on the rooftop of my apartment. But Carol jumped off an apartment building and died. Thanks Carol!

I am not super knowledgeable about speed limits, maybe we have some civil/traffic engineers on the forum that can chime in. I thought the posted speed limit was the amount that the vast majority of vehicles can handle, and there is also a calculated speeds based on road geometries. In a hypothetical case I like to use, a young, skilled driver in a Porsche probably shouldn't be held to the same standards as fifty year old mom driving a minivan, until she abruptly changes lanes on the public road and he rear ends her.... You can drive as fast as you want on private property or closed tracks though.
And then we have the movie Idiocracy being so sadly close to reality
