Alternative squadron idea

By Snipafist, in Star Wars: Armada

Lot of no squadron wins? Where are you seeing this? In your area or in general?

I've seen it personally in the MoS event, which was won at the store I went to by a zero squadron fleet.

The same guy also won two other MoS events that weekend. Likely he's an excellent player but I didn't get the chance to play him.

I've also seen it mentioned on here repeatedly.

Agree completely with the OP. There should be squadrons everywhere in a Star Wars game. A simple change of "Max of one third" changed to "min of one third" would do the job, and is exactly as intrusive as the current rule. We do this where I play, and it is great fun to see A Wings dueling it out with interceptors, and y wings going on bombing runs, and huge clouds of tie fighters all over the board. Squadron-less fleets look stupid as hell, and I think they just seem like the product of win-at-all-cost-whores who don't really love Star Wars and have no soul and think that a fleet of three Gladiators is super cool and awesome.

Too harsh?

:-)

Then it is your area. Did anyone take a Yavaris with B-Wings that knew what they were doing with it? As ficklegreendice will say when he reads your statement, that one little ship with bombers ruins Gladiator's days every time.

All I know is that in the Portland Vancouver area of the Pacific Northwest, there were 5 Massing of Sullust events held and all of them were won by squadron based fleets.

I had Yavaris, 2 x B; 2 x Y; 1 x A and Luke.

Didn't get drawn against anyone without fighters myself.

In 3 games, assuming 12 players where only approx 1/3rd go heavy on some kind of bomber force, it's not unlikely for a player to go all day without fighting something with heavy bomber formations.

That said, the guy won three tournaments so he clearly knows what he's doing.

All your tournaments had 12 people?

Doubt it, was UK Sheffield tournament. We had ten.

Not sure about his other tournaments just that he already have the top two prizes prior to the Sunday tournament.

I think he may have said that one of the other days had poor attendance, but either way a win is a win when there's free ships involved.

Had a Nationals yet?

No idea. I'm going to play in the 2016 thing whatever it's called, some of the guys the other day had the special cards though (like the ISD from MoS) which suggests that there's been something previously..

Ahh the Store Championships.
