Homing Jake + FCS B's

By TaeSWXW, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Jake Farrell (27)
A-Wing (24), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Chardaan Refit (-2), Veteran Instincts (1), Autothrusters (2), Intimidation (2)

Blue Squadron Pilot (24) x 3
B-Wing (22), Fire-Control System (2)

Fairly simple game plan:

1. Jake, at PS9, can wait for his target to move, then Focus+BR+PTL+Boost+Move to intentionally bump whatever you want to focus fire.

2. FCS B's focus fire on the bumped ship.

I think it goes without saying that this would be significantly more entertaining than 4x FCS B... but is it any better? If Jake is able to maintain arc on another ship then you're gaining a few extra red dice per turn but it's not focused on one target. The list is arguably more durable with Jake (arc-dodger vs. fourth B) but he's also putting himself out there by intentionally bumping.

1. Jake can't take actions before he moves ( unless you have a way to pass him a focus token before he moves).

2. You can't bump with either a barrel-roll or a boost. If you would overlap a ship while performing one of those moves you aren't allowed to do it.

3. Actionless A-Wings are dead A-Wings.

4. You mention PTL but Jake only has VI and Intimidation in the build you posted.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that was the whole point of using Jake - take a focus action which triggers a BR which you can PTL off of.

You need to take PTL for that to happen and you can't take a focus action until after you move. Jake gives you a free boost or barrel-roll whenever you get a focus token. If you have PTL you can use the boost or barrel-roll to trigger it for what amounts to a third action.

Wow, I am totally off my rocker this morning. This must be what leaving a cult feels like.
