Collated Counter TLT Performance?

By EvaUnit02, in X-Wing

Is there a thread, blog post, site, or other link that has a collated set of lists that have had tournament success against TLTs at major tournaments with detailed information like turn-by-turn reports?

What I'm after is to get away from people's opinions, theories, talk about "theme" or "negative play experience", or any such nonsense. I also want to get away from people that have defeated random lists at small tournaments or tournaments that are not representative of premiere-level play.

I want to know if there's actual data out there on lists that are not only having success against 4 Y-Wings with TLTs but also having general high-level tournament success. I'm having a tough time against it and am interested in what information the community has collected.

Store champs & regionals were pretty much over by the time TLTs hit tables.

I'm not sure there'v been m/any major tournaments in the interim.

Almost certainly not since the FAQ which nerfed fat point-fortressing pancakes.

If you do want to talk strategy, you are basically just looking for a way to reliably destroy at least one Y-wing before it has a chance to fire. Ideally while limiting opportunities for return fire.

This means secondary weapons and pilot skill bids.

FFG Worlds tournament is happening in early November. That will probably be the biggest and best test of TLT we could possibly hope to get.

My bet is that we'll see a couple of TLT lists make it pass Swiss and into elimination rounds, but that the actual winner of Worlds is going to be some list no one is currently discussing much.

Any details you'd like to share, Thawne???

If I actually knew of such a list to name specifically, I would be going to Worlds myself to win with it. :-p

But just to give an example, the winner of U.S. Nationals used a non-standard Dash Rendar list with Anti-Pursuit Lasers, and at least two others in the top 16 had Anti-Pursuit Lasers on a YT-2400. I had never seen APL on a YT-2400 discussed in any thread on the FFG forums or Reddit before then, except in the context of joke lists like three Wild Space Fringers. I expect we'll see something similar at Worlds - not a totally new list archetype, but a tweak, a pilot choice, an upgrade swap, something non-standard that takes us by surprise.

The forums only ever talk about what the meta is currently oversaturated with, be that TLTs or Fat ships. I can't remember the last time I saw any genuinely new ideas come out of this place. You have to actually play the game to see that happen.

I have two suggestions.

The first is to go read through at least the first couple of posts in this thread. I'm not talking about tournament results in it, but I am using experience gained from about approximately twenty games (at this point) played both with and against TLT.

The second is to check out the results of the Team Covenant Open. Their first round of qualifiers has ended, and while the structure of the tournament is a little bizarre, it features dozens of competitive players from all over the world. You can go here to look at every list that was played, and pay special attention to the lists that went 3-0 (earthworm, frans, veldrin, chilligan, transmogrifier, rinehart, pheaver, pauld, vaynmaanen, kdubb, and bmf0). There are a couple of TLTs in there, but no TLT spam lists, and generally there's a lot of diversity.

Whoa - That's a diverse set of lists - that harken back to the wave 3 days - almost no dual ship builds (I'm only seeing bossk and Boba! how'd that even go 3-0, cool!

I'm seeing a sprinkling of 1-2 TLT's (which is what I thought I'd see mostly) - and lots and lots of p.s. 3/4 That if anything is a sign of a healthy meta - because that means there's a place for the p.s. 5-7 ships....

I recently went to a tournament and beat the quad unhinged tlt list.

I ran 4 Tie Advanced Tempests with Accuracy Corrector and Cluster Missiles.

Strategy was pretty simple. Evade for actions unless I was within range 1-2 and could fire off the cluster missiles at which time I target locked. Try to get into range 1 ASAP.

I won 100-50.

I ended up winning 3 of my 4 matches that day.

Another list I think does well against it is the 3 Daggers with FCS and HLC.

I also flew 4 tempests with AC's and cluster missiles. It was just a beatdown for anyone who wasn't very good at arc dodging. Even against arc dodgers, I only had problems with one guy who flew Echo. I went 4/5
