Objectives for low ship count empire

By sunny ravencourt, in Star Wars: Armada

If I'm using heavy imperial ships and only a couple squadrons, which are the objectives that I should think about picking? Also, I'm running gunnery teams on all three if that makes a difference for the gunnery assault objective.

Thanks

Sunny

VVG? VGG? VV? Ditch an gun team and go with advanced gunnery. Also contested outpost would be good.

I am assuming VVV or VVG based on you saying heavy imperial ships. Or this is a 400 pts game with IVV or something like that Here is what you want:

Advanced Gunnery is the best Red (Offensive) objective for you, if only because:

1) You don't have a lot of ships for Opening Salvo, plus you have a lot of hull and thus a decent chance to give up 1/2 points for damaged ships.

2) Most Wanted is a great way to let the enemy throw a lot of extra dice on your big ship. Again, favors lots of small ships.

3) Precision Strike isn't good either, as your primary defensive value is not your shields like Rebel ships, but your Hull. Plus, few bombers.

That isn't to say it isn't a good option. Throw it on a VSDII or ISD and watch those dice all fly on the same target. You can probably force your opponent to chose something else just to avoid seeing that objective played. Which bring us to Yellow (Defensive) objectives.

Contested Outpost is probably the best one for you. Your ships are slow with bad turning radii, so you want to know where your opponent will be. When they HAVE to go for the objective or risk losing 20 pts a turn to you, you know exactly where and when they will be there. And so will you. With your big Imperial front arcs.

Fire Lanes is another good objective, giving you the chance to use your front arc to snag multiple tokens and rack up extra points. Choosing between the two would be personal preference.

Hyperspace Assault is fun, but probably not ideal unless you have a great idea for dropping a VSDII behind the enemy.

Fleet Ambush has the chance to make them the ambushers if you don't play it right. Not bad, but I'd rather have Contested Outpost / Fire Lanes.

Any of these would be acceptable for selecting as Player 1, except maybe for Hyperspace Assault.

For Navigation Objectives:

Intel Sweep can be played much the same way as Contested Outpost. Just make sure you destroy the enemy objective ship so you can pick it up with yours. Maybe not the best, but it is an option.

Minefields can let you use a "V" shape to funnel the enemies into your front arcs, and keep them from looping around your flank. Probably the best option.

Superior Positions is probably not the best decision with a low squadron count, but I love this objective so much I'd be tempted to take it anyways. It ALWAYS helps to deploy last.

Dangerous Territory can be fun as well, if you set the obstacles up right to pick up your 3, and swing around to nail the opponents. After all, ignoring obstacles is somewhat useful when you are flying giant flying bricks like VSDs or ISDs.
