Happy Friday - Starwars Battlefront Demo is live for all

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

Been playing the beta like mad. A few of my opinions.

-Typical EA game. Looks brilliant but the game play leaves a ton to be desired. There is just no depth to the game. Barely any strategy etc. A great part of the original games was choosing different classes and choosing what spawn point to start in. Which leads too..

What makes the game play have more depth? If the rebels didn't do their objective strategically they lost, easy as that. You have a class system, you just get to customize it, the spawn points I do agree on though.

-Random spawn points? Seriously? It's 2015 ffs..

Its not really random, you have two main spawns per area. The bigger problem is it nto changing the spawns when pushed

-It's battlefield with a shiny skin. There is literally no evolution of gameplay or anything outside of graphics that makes you think this is next gen.

It is nothing like battlefield, if it being a shooter and a load out select, then every FPS/TPS for the past 10 years is the same.

-Space battles. Yes I know. . But saying the original games weren't about space battles is complete nonesense. Star wars is all about space battles and space battles played a big role (and fun factor) in the original games. Why is it that the newer a game is the less features it has? Another one of EA standard moves. All eye candy without the features the gamers actually love and want.

As stated before, I have always hated the space battles in battle front and they were terrible. I want a stand alone game, not one that has it slap sticked in. If they made a new TIE/X-Wing series this would be much more preferable

-Show me a scene in any star wars movie where Vader moves around this fast. It's ridiculous. Vader is far too fast and walkers are far too slow.

Show me a scene in the movie where the rebels win Hoth, have personal shield generators, rocket launchers, etc etc. The lore even states Vader, even with his heavy armor was a fast fighter.

-Vehicles are power ups? Give me a fkn break. Terrible design decision. They are taking the freedom away from what add the original games so incredible. Battlefront is supposed to be a shooters sandbox where you can tackle problem as you see fit. Not hope you stumble upon a power up.

They aren't power ups, nor are they random, they are spawn locations just like every other battlefront, you just don't have a vehicle sitting there that can be destroyed before anyone can get into it.

-Graphics and sound are top notch and very imersive.

Finally a game that actually delivers trailer quality gameplay.

-Tow cable walkers is a **** QTE?! 2015 and we are using QTE still? Once again shows this game is built for looks and nothang else.

It has to be a QTE, otherwise it would be too easy to drop a AT-AT at the end of the round. Rebels wouldn't have to try taking them down till that point.

Overall I'm completely let down. It's not a step forward in any way that matters. All looks, no personality. Design decisions are complete head scratchers. Lacking basic features that have been in shooters for 20 years. Lack of customization and freedom on how to tackle any given problem.

Is it fun? Absolutely... for a few hours at least. If you're amused easily, you will love it. If you prefer even a modest amount of depth or strategy, look elsewhere.

I am not easily amused, I actually went into the beta expecting to hate it. That generalization is like saying, you sir are to hard to please and just wanted a Battlefront 2.5 and not a new game.

All in all, I pre-ordered the day it was announced and have just canceled that preorder.

Felt that was easier then retyping. I am not defending the game, there is some issues here and there. But it does do what it is meant to, get that star wars battle field feeling. I will be getting this day one now.

It looks cool. But, I think I will remain happy with Splatoon for my online shooter needs. Besides the fact that it is half the price.

You own a Wii u? Wow that's gonna dent your street cred, so do you and the three other people that one play against bots or what?

Wow that was unnecessarily rude.

Just remember, he can be rude to other people, but if you insult him, he gets you reported. :D

$50 for the season pass. I'm going to bet $10.00 of it is some kind of "skins" either Red guns, or some kind of christmas tree and ribbon pattern. $20.00 will be those missing levels that were removed from the game, not added later, and the last $20.00 will be some kind of experience booster junk, weapon rentals, and a pink skin for the tie fighter or something.

I think this is a trend that won't stop. The game is $120 basically. Games have been $60 for far too long, and they want you to pay $120 realistically for the whole game, and have to find a way to get people to actually pay that, so they charge $60.00 for 5/8 of a game, just enough to make it feel like you're getting your moneys worth, then charge $50 extra to have the full game.

It may be one that's worth waiting for for some, to see if the price goes down to maybe $30. I'll personally get it because by the time it's $30 no one will be playing it, so since it's fun, I'll be paying the $60 up front to be entertained for a while and won't be too upset about it. I bought evolve last week for $20, and boy was it barely worth that. I can play maybe 1 match a day before I get bored, no one plays anymore, and it costs $30 extra if you actually want any other characters. It's a weak game.

It's not necessarily an unfair assesment of Wii U sales. I love my Wii U, but I am hardly ignorant to it's issues.

But it's not okay to insult somebody for their tastes. Sure the Wii U has had some issues- but it's not an awful system. Developers are just sitting there crying to themselves that there's a type of controller they've never seen before and don't know how to work it right.

An RTS like Empire at War where the gamepad acts as your datapad would be the best possible use of the gamepad. Hell, Fatal Frame uses it as the Camera Obscura and that right there is brilliant and capable of nearly 1:1 Immersion.

Poor gamepad is just terribly underutilized. :(

Pikmin 3 used the gamepad to excellent effect.

Gah. I never did get into Pikmin, so I'll likely never know. >_>

Hedging my bets on Star Fox Zero utilizing it well, however.

Off screen play is the bomb.

And Fatal Frame looks to use it to great effect. Pity they didn't jump on a new Pokemon Snap.

Oh man, that would have been genius.

You know, it'd be cool for a Submarine game too. Like that one that's on the 3DS, but bigger and better... and not F2P.

Or you could, you know, look at past precedent and be very confident that it'll be four sets of maps, each of which will come with some new equipment and/or vehicles.

Honestly, if you guys are this mad at the gaming industry then why don't you just stop giving them money? Read a book, go running, whatever.

Because we're hopeless.

But seriously I'm probably going to pitch in on the season pass- if I love a game enough, then I'll want the DLCs, and I'm bound to buy them ahead anyway so why not get a solid discount?

It's totally optional and a matter of how much, you, the player, want to invest.. And for me..?

Battlefront will be my primary shooter. I will invest quite heavily. Already going to pre-order the special edition. Not the minifridge one though, as much as I want it.

Though I already have a minifridge. Two is nice.

I"m not a nintendo gamer, never was, never will be. But even I admit splatoon is both an awesome idea and a fun game.

Nintendo makes awesome games it's just their consoles that are lacking, if they went segas route and just published games for Microsoft and Sony and mobile that'd be awesome.

Rumours are saying the new console will again be underpowered compared to 8th gen machines which is pretty bad given they are low end gaming pc's already.

Exclusives are nice but no one wants to buy three consoles so they can play everything you want one that gets everything.

Being an "x"-gamer is a bad thing anyways. Never bind yourself to a company that doesn't really care about youm and none of them do. Play what is fun, get the system(s) whose linups appeals to you the most, but never be complacent. Always look for the best experience.

I agree Adm. Deathrain. But Halo.

I'll eventually update my PC so gaming spec again (it'll be a whole new box to be honest) but only when I need to.

As it stands both space engineers and tales of the sword coast(think that's it's name) are coming out on xbox and are thus not PC exclusive, and Battlefleet gothic / Deathwatch are just not enough to trigger my PC upgrade yet.

Hence Xbox.

That is exactly my point. XBone offers Halo, and that is what you want, so you chose that system. I am not particularly interested in any console exclusives (although a continuation of the Pokemon colloseum series would at least catch my attention), so I am happy with the best baseline system, the PC. Nintendo has incredibly strong exclusives, so a lot of people are understandably drawn to that, although sadly, because of failed marketing and a weird price policy, not enough. The PS4 is cheaper and easier to maintain than a gaming PC, and it is slightly stronger than the XBone, so it also has an audience (and exclusives, of course). The person with all systems will always have the best experience, but since everyone is on a budget of some sort, we have to make choices according to our taste.

This is no different than twenty+ years ago and choosing the Genesis/Mega Drive because it's version of Mortal Kombat was better... (With Amiga and PC owners looking down on both).

MEGADRIVE 4 LIFE!!!!

I had a snes as well but man megadrive had some great games on there from eswat to the x-men games and beyond i have so many good memories from my childhood wasted in front of a Telly.

I liked the game and will pay full retail for it. I also realize that it was just the beta, but I had enough fun with it to play it long enough with only 2 game modes and 2 maps.

Good for you, me it made me reconsider buying it at release I'm not sure I'd play it enough to get my moneys worth.

Like I said things are only worth what the customer is willing to pay that bars different for everyone.

I'm curious what about the beta made you reconsider. I'm also debating if I should've just PMed you as I'm sure this will spew off a lot of negative side comments. I did find the same 2 game modes on the same 2 maps a bit boring, but I know the real thing will have more variety in it.

When I read a lot of the complaints, I keep thinking.....this is the beta. Bad spawn points and odd bugs are just the things they are looking for when they release the beta. They are fixable. You should expect to find a number of bugs. That's why they do an open beta.

The complaints about the sniper rifle I understand....but think it's not so bad. You only get to shoot every 7 seconds with it. How many people are going to be hanging out and sniping with only getting to shoot every 7 seconds? I dunno...I just think that there will be better upgrades to take. I've tried shooting with it (on Xbox) and it's not exactly easy. Then again, didn't I read that they considered it OP and were going to tweak it? I mean, that's what you do in a beta.

As for the upgrades for the vehicles, I like it. BF series always had the vehicle in some backwater that you had to jump into. It can be blown up on the ground by enemy aircrafts and was kind of frustrating. Having it as an upgrade in an area that isn't too far out of the way is pretty cool. Your opponent can't blow it up before someone gets in it. You might see it and jump in instead of having a dedicated 2-3 guys that always grab the flying vehicles. I like that.

It basically just lacked depth you rush in kill a guy get shot from behind, wash and repeat.

Hoth being very one sided was also a turn off.

Being insta killed by the other side spawning behind me was highly annoying.

It looked and sounded great but it's beauty is skin deep and i want a little depth from my games.

I see myself getting bored with it very quickly.

But if people liked it they should buy and play it, i'm not saying it's a bad game just not really for me :D

The spawning issues are something I know they can fix.

I think the issues with the game being new contribute to the lack of strategy. I found that when I played the Pod game, I would take the time to approach from a different angle and it was usually very effective. I also found when you get upgrades and use them smartly then you did better. Using the personal shield at the right time to claim a pod was effective. I'll also note that I've played the Hoth map where the Rebels won. Once you figure it out and have the upgrades, it's not as one sided as it is at the start.

Once out of beta and you can use voice chat more freely will be better for organization for the game. I think that will make the strategy much better. It will become essential for the Hoth, but will make the Pod game more interesting when you can organize with your team.

When I played at the end of the beta that it was a lot different then at the beginning of the beta. People learned the maps better. People had more upgrades. People rushed ahead to get killed less often. I think there is a learning curve.

I actually had twin 6 button controllers for Streetfighter and the Mortal Kombat Games.

I had the FPS they released for the Mega Drive in 94. I Beat Golden Axe on Hard, Fighting past Death Adder to the TRUE Boss. (I also beat that tournament mode thing). I've seen every ending to Streets of Rage....

Aww man streets of rage two was the perfect side scrolling beat'em up.
