My body is ready
So stoked, gameplay is awesome so far. Can't wait for the full game to be released next month
So, I got to play a little of the battlefront beta today. Yeah, it's kinda' fun, I'm not so prideful that I can't admit that. Do I still think the lack of space battles is annoying? Yes. Do I think it's worth 70 bucks? No.
But, is it fun?
Yeah, if the price is knocked 20-25 bucks then you're getting your money's worth.
Not gonna lie I didn't like it.
Not gonna lie I didn't like it.
'Tis a tad blah and didn't hold my interest past five matches.
I don't think the Beta offers enough content, tbh. That, and trooper deployment could stand to be a little more uh, involved. Than random *POP* HERE I AM YES HELLO
Not Impressed. Enjoy your random power-up drops.
What about the good old xbox 360?
I'd love to try it myself, but I'm having a lot of stupid software trouble. I've downloaded Origin, and the Beta, but for some ridiculous reason it won't install the needed driver. I've downloaded it from Intel and restarted my computer 10 times already, but nothing is happening! If only it could work for XBOX 360. I never had this needless trouble with a console.
Not Impressed. Enjoy your random power-up drops.
Remember, this is a beta. They are testing to get feedback from the community. This by moo means shows what the final product will be like. And as for it missing the space battles, that's not what this game is about. I guarantee there well be a dog fighting mode either as an expansion or in the first release.

This is EA we're talking about here, they aren't.

Dice actually, who i realize has been a sister co pany for a while and have made some of the better battlefield games. But it seems like you know everything so i suppose the game is going to be terrible. This is EA we're talking about here, they aren't.They are testing to get feedback from the community.
You mean all the the Battlefield games, which have been declining in quality since BF2142. As is EA's wont, they've pretty much taken complete control of the thing and it's a shell of its former self.
But I guess I'm just bitter and tired of watching games get shilled regardless of merit. After three duplicate threads and three posts extolling Battlefront I have to wonder.
Edited by TipperaryThat's your opinion dude. The battlefield franchise is one of the most successful first person shooters of all time. I don't know how one could compare the old PC games with the titles they are currently putting out. The classics were great, 1942 was awesome! But you have to respect how amazing the new engine and game play is. Let's keep it positive and hope they can work out some of the kinks.
Don't.
Have.
Enough.
Monitors.

You know what. I like it. I'll expand on this later, bit busy now but this is on my radar, officially.

anyway, this is a pretty good example of how to look like a stealth marketer
I flewd an A-wing in to the side of an AT-AT
(not on purpose i was just rubbish, but it was still brilliant)

All said and told, I didn't think this game was going to make me buy it day one from all the teasers, but the beta has delivered. Might have to get it both for the PC and buy a PS4 just to play with buds that only have consoles.
Edit: I do apologize, there is a random upgrade that spawns staticly, if can either be the missile launcher, squad shield generator, or implosion gernade. But that is about the only random thing in the game.
Edited by Hujoe BigsYou mean all the the Battlefield games, which have been declining in quality since BF2142.
Bad Company 2 was the best game in the series, but Battlefield 4 wasn't far behind.
So, okay. This game... This freakin' game...
...I love it.
And I HATE myself for loving it. But it's just... Well dammit it's so good..! Seriously, I love it. After playing it more, I really really REALLY like the mechanics.
So, let's get my biggest gripe out of the way. SPACE! None of it. For now however, I'm okay with that. I'm okay with space being future DLC... Because it honestly isn't needed. I'll expand upon it later.
Let's talk about cards, pickups, and balance.
Star Wars: Battlefront, is an extremely well balanced game. It never feels like it's particularly in one side's favor. One of the keys to this is the card system, in which you must purchase your upgrades with "Credits" you earn that are absracted from your total XP that match. With this, you can create your own custom loadout, consisting of two munitions based upgrades, one "ability' upgrade, and one slot left for pickups. This system allows a player to have what they want, when they want, but also adds a slice of randomizaion to the mix with slot 4. To use your ability card, you must pick up a few "Energy" tokens. It all sounds pretty weird right?
But it works out very well. Really, it does. Because these pickups are often put into open fields of fire, and places that you should really watch out. This allows a team to really honestly gain something by pushing forward, and lose something by getting pushed back- but never losing too much! If you're a brazen, skilled, brave player then you can rush out for your energy or token- but do remember just how very mortal you are. Or, you can advance with your team and pick the right chance to pick it up.
Some tokens have special icons. The silhouette is easily identifiable, but particularly powerful ones such as this are often labeled at a distance. You may see a TIE Fighter icon with "80m" under it. Go get it, son! But watch out, it won't be free! these tokens take a few seconds to activate, so you can't smash and grab, you gotta' be careful. I love that.
And you know, I seriously don't mind the lack of vehicle spawns. Because it completely kills camping. Completely. Kills. Camping. How many times did you see an NPC get into a fighter you wanted, or wait for the right one to respawn, all while not being able to contribute to the team your way? You don't get that problem in Battlefront- no, you get what's given to you and you will take it, because the battles are intense, dynamic, and you'll feel the pressure to help your team.
The way some powerups work is quite clever. Let's start big and with the AT-AT. In the AT-AT's cockpit, you must attain kills fairly often to replenish your timer- much like being a Hero in Battlefront II, but with none of the mobility so you don't become this nigh invulnerable, unstoppable force of nature. It's clever.
With vehicles, it has health that thus far cannot be replenished. These are potent weapons that demand you practice with them. Each fighter has its own unique qualities and abilities, and you must adjust accordigly. But it does it in such a way that, while confusing at first, feels right.
But, you can also be a hero. So far, just Vader and Luke, and it feels good. You feel like a true powerhouse, but your health if finite and does not regenerate. Such is the cost of having so much power. After all, no one man should have all of it.
The randomized tokens are all fairly potent. Proxy mines are nice, Implosion charges are bass-drop death-devices, smart rockets are fairly effective, even when dumb-fired. (Got two kills with one when the match started, was pretty legit!) The team shield is also super nice, but you better watch out. It's no Bubble Shield from Halo 3, nor will it save you from snipers.
Ah, snipers..! What a wonderful subject here. Let's get down to it.
Your personal munitions cards! Thermal Detonators, Cycler Rifles, Jump-Packs, multi-shot Grenade Launchers! You name it, they've got it- and this is just the beta, folks.
The Cycler rifle is ingenious. You can fire once every seven seconds, but it IS a devastating, cross-map-capable sniper rifle. Very good, very potent stuff. But balanced! Everybody carries around some variant of rifle or carbine, perhaps even pistol, but rifles like this? Oh no- that's too powerful. That needs to be situational. But that's just friggin' perfect, because it doesn't lock you into lugging one around. You can still be a B.A. Rifle wielding combatant, find a good spot, whip out 'ol bett'ty and cap a rebel/imp. It's great.
Utility cards have cooldowns. This ensures they cannot be used excessively, cannot be spammed- and remain situational. Trust me when I say, your mainline rifle is sufficient for MOST tasks.
Finally, the maps. Oh my god are the brilliantly designed! So many layers, areas, and so on. The trenches of Hoth, man! THE TRENCHES OF HOTH, MAN. I love 'em. There's nothing like watching entirely player-caused explosions erupt right by your head in huge 20x20 matches, with TIEs flying overhead, blasting at you- your rifle pointed at the cockpit as you nigh-hopelessly unleash before they score their killing hit on you.
The game is an adrenaline rush that keeps you on your toes. It may be the most fun War game I've ever played. Note the choice in wording there though- Halo: Reach is still my most favorite FPS out there, but this really gets that war feeling out there.
And visually, wow. Just f**king wow. They got the sparkle in snow! THE SNOW SPARKLES! Little glimpses of beauty as you run through the exploding trenches of Hoth, hoping to find some cover. It's just great.
Now there are some stupid things of course. A Cycler Rifle shot down my TIE and your blasters can kill friggin' starfighters- where are the shields on X-Wings and A-Wings, man? Well the latter has a brief invulerability shield you can activate, but still. However, I'm cool with it! Blasters in Star Wars are REALLY deadly. Did you see the holes Han's DL-44 punched in the docking bay in Mos Eisley? That could hurt a starfighter no problem. Hell, you don't want your modern fighterplane getting hit by small arms fire either- not like the things are impervious.
But seriously. This is a really great, fun Star Wars game. I love the visual direction, sound design is great, and the gunplay is utterly fantastic too.
This is a game you should play. Are there cons? Yeah no friggin' space. That's half-remedied now with the squadron mode, but we can't play that 'til release, as it turns out. But the setpieces are beautiful, dynamic, impressive, and let me tell you, I have never felt like I was actually UNDER an AT-AT until tonight. Just wow. The sheer scale...
This is a very good game, guys. I was a naysayer for a VERY long time, and now I'm absolutely EATING my foot.
