Scum alpha strike!

By Gausebeck, in X-Wing Squad Lists

After thinking about an alpha strike version of Bossk in another thread, it seemed like it could be worth building a list around it:

Bossk + HLC + Merc Copilot + K4 Security Droid + Crack Shot + Greedo + Engine Upgrade (53)

N'Dru Suhlak + Cluster Missiles + Glitterstim + Lone Wolf (25)

Kaa'to Leeachos + Cluster Missiles + Glitterstim + Crack Shot (22)

Together, they can deal an average of 16 damage plus cancel 2 evades in one round of combat (5 attacks). The damage comes in at PS 7 and 5, so likely ahead of any massed firepower that could take down a Z before it gets to shoot (the Zs would have focus on defense due to Glitterstim).

The positioning would be a little tricky but hopefully not too bad since you just have to line it up for the first shot. Bossk wants to be at range 3, and the Zs want to be at range 1-2 with N'Dru off on his own. It's likely that Bossk would get his best shot one round before the Zs, but that's fine, too.

You could fit in a couple Heavy Scyk or more Zs with cluster missiles instead of Bossk, but this version keeps everything at high PS, and Bossk is actually pretty respectable in terms of alpha strike damage. At range 3, he can get almost the equivalent of 6 damage in one attack, including a crit. 3.75 hits from HLC + focus + TL (from K4), an extra hit from Merc plus his pilot ability, cancel an evade (Crack Shot), and deal the first damage as a crit (Greedo).

I messed around with this alpha striking list. Largely the same idea, but I used 2 Ys instead of the Hound's Tooth (which I don't own).

Hired Gun, TLT, Unhinged Astromech, BTL-A4 = 27

Hired Gun, TLT, Unhinged Astromech, BTL-A4 = 27

N'Dru Suhlak, VI, Homing Missile = 23

Kaato Leachos, Deadeye, Concussion Missile = 20

I'm not sure what the remaining 3 points were used for, but any number of illicit slot upgrades fit the bill. The idea behind mine was that it wasn't worried about the first turn Target Lock. Kaato doesn't need it with Deadeye, and N'Dru will be able to get one without too much trouble because of PS9. All in all, it gives 6 shots from the Ys, a 4 or 5 dice Homing Missile from N'Dru, and a very accurate Concussion Missile (that can be fired at targets of opportunity), because Leachos can steal a Focus from a Y-wing, who probably won't miss it that much. It's a bunch of early hits.
