Underappreciated Combos

By Ravncat, in X-Wing

Ten Numb with accuracy corrector and auto-blasters is pretty nice at range 1. Can't cancel the hits and one of the crits. Combined with a target lock and or focus tokens this is some pretty reliable damage.

Doesn't Accuracy Corrector cancel all die results and replace them with two hits...no crits...no Ten Numb uncancelled crit ability.

Calculation is good on Ten.

I'm thinking of a different card, the one that gives you a target lock after attacking.

fire control system is what you are thinking of

Keyan + Squad Leader + Experimental Interface

One of my favorites that I never much talk of.

Soontir Fel with Elusiveness seems like a really fun combo, it's not the double focus + evade, but you can make your opponent reroll a dice at the price of a stress.

Too bad that PTL is so OP on him that there really can't be a discussion. Would be fun to run a few games where you ban the obvious combos, though.

If I'm playing with non PTLsoontir - I quite like daredevil soontir.

Palob w/ Expert Handling + K-4 Security Droid + Blaster Turret: 29 points. (Moldy Crow for 3 more is helpful and worth it if you have the points left in the build.)

People aren't used to HWKs barrel rolling so it can catch them off guard, since you are probably going to do a green maneuver afterwards, K-4 gives you a free Target Lock for your troubles. It's fun to barrel roll out of a lower PS pilot's arc with a HWK or, alternatively barrel roll into range two so you can steal their focus and blast them.

Expert Handling and K4 is cool on anything, really. Firesprays come to mind, for example, and YV-666s also gain a lot with their weird arc.

Any EPT A wing with Test Pilot can make great use of Daredevil. Jake can do an about face with it to the left or right. Hard 1 (or Green 2), focus, Boost Bank 1, PTL Daredevil.

Doesn't work. PTL only allows you to perform actions in your action bar. You need EI to trigger Daredevil if you don't use it as your primary action.

That's why you don't use Jake, you use Tycho.

Daredevil is great on an A-Wing with Wired though.

2 Green Squadron with PTL + Wingman flying together is quite cute.

Hobbie with R3-A2, particularly with Dutch on the board. It's worth it just to see your opponent's face as you k-turn Hobbie, have Dutch hand him a TL to shed the stress, use the stressbot and then shed the second stress by spending the same TL.

Nice. I look forward to trying that one this weekend.

Crazy Harry - Syndicate Thug with bomb loadout, extra munitions, proton bomb and "Genius" astromech, for 25.

Its combos like this that make me super excited. Even if I lose the game I win if I can just pull off the move!

Bacon and eggs.

Going back to the topic: Oicunn with daredevil, dauntless and EU for double-bumping damage and a mountain of stress is lots of fun if you can pull it off.

Now that we have BB-8 and soon Integrated Astromech, how about Wedge with Swarm Tactics?

Wedge (29)

BB-8 (2)

ST (2)

IA (0)

The X-Wing action bar just does not offer a good enough choice of actions to lend itself to efficient use of PTL unless you start adding other upgrades. This gets expensive in a hurry. And even then, without Evade you don't gain what the X-Wing really needs. With new Wedge, you still get a maneuverable PS9 pilot, with dice modifiers and better survivablity, for no stress, but now one of your pals gets to shoot with you at PS9. He still leaves room for some interesting 4 ship build combinations too.

BB-8 is enough to make PTL worth it. Premovement barrel roll, focus and target lock with the ability to not take the third action and bump into a threat so it can't damage you is good enough. I don't quite see how BB-8 helps ST Wedge by much. I do however like Swarm Tactics in squads with Roark Garnet who presents you with the choice of having 1 gun at 12 and 2 at 9 or 2 at 12 for an earlier damage peak.

Porkins + DTF + R5-P9 in a 4 X-Wing build featuring Biggs and two Rookies, and Integrated Astromechs for everyone.

Its not so much that BB-8 helps swarm tactics Wedge as that it allows Wedge to help his pals. While I agree that PTL and Predator are usually better on Wedge, Swarm Tactics on one of the few PS9 pilots in the game should not be overlooked. And yes Roark with swarm tactics buddies is super fun.

I will also be honest, it never occered to me to purposely bump with a PS9 dude to shoot one guy without taking fire from another.

Here's one for Epic play:

You can use Swarm Tactics or Decoy on your Huge Ships to up their pilot skill.

In this particular situation, I prefer Decoy over Swarm Tactics. It's a lot easier to maintain a comfortable Range 2 of an Epic ship than it is to constantly stay within range 1 without getting run over.

I like Navigator on Miranda Doni. It gives her a semi-arc dodgy feel, plus a rip cord to go from a 1-move to a 7- if things turn out poorly before the PS8 ships activate.

I don't think OP is quite the right word. PTL on Soontir is a great combo, but it's also the minimum-viable combo. There are lots of ways of spending 30 points on a ship, and many of them are better than Soontir with PTL and nothing else.

For instance: Outer Rim smuggler + C3P0 would give Soontir + PTL a good fight. Gold Y-Wing + TLT gives you 6 extra points to create an interesting combo to take against Soontir.

In retrospect, I wish the Squint title had been a 3 point title to basically add PTL to all the equipped ships. Then you'd see a lot more variation in Squint builds, I think.
