Jumpmaster and shields

By Evenflow30, in X-Wing

Engine25, I like your idea about temporary buffing defense, but seven shield tokens mean that technically, there must be a moment when all seven are needed within this expansion.

If whatever upgrade the tokens are for could be used on another ship while the Jumpmaster is also being used then that would be reason enough to include them even if the Jumpmaster wouldn't be able to get to 7 shields when using it.

That is a possibility, however I am guessing this upgrade for these shields will be scum only. Every scum ships comes with there own shields so if it were meant to say, replenish shields and not overcharge, I think you could just use the tokens you already have with whatever other scum ship you ran.

Dang it! Every time I try to like EbongHawk's post I click Covered in Weasels' profile page by accident! Liking on smartphones = Covered in Weasels.

"Gonk. Gonk. Gonk ko kyenga see."

I would be excited if this card works along the lines as a Scum only, large and huge ship only, one time use crew card that potentially boosts shields (3 shields sounds solid here) beyond the starting value and then generates 2 ion tokens as benbaxter suggested.

You probably wouldn't see it too often on Aggressors but as an additional option for the YV-666, it would be cool. It would also make for an interesting situational choice on Scum huge ships.

It's so easy to picture resourceful Scum repurposing this droid as a disposable combat trick to save their *** while Gonk gets fried in the process.

Been looking at the screen capture a bit more and this might not actually be something that the Gonk droid provides but may actually be something to do with the overcharged aggromech that comes with the JM-5000?

Whilst I would prefer it to be a crew member to help buff the YT-666 and Firespray-31, another aggromech wouldn't be that bad either.

You probably wouldn't, Aggressors don't have a crew slot ;)

Hahaha good call

Everything here is just speculation, but...

First of all, I'm sure that "Gonk" is a unique salvaged astromech. Therefore, we do not face too many ships over-powered with this card: only scum Y-wings and Jumpmaster.

I don't think a Gonk droid would fit very well into an astromech socket.

Just jam it in there. If it gets stuck, a couple of hard kicks should do the trick.

Dremel tool.

It's probably a Scum-only crew card, which means it'll be usable only on the Firespray, the Jumpmaster, the G-1A, the HWK and the YV. An ability that adds three shield tokens once per game, probably with some other cost associated with it, sounds reasonable for those ships.

Get a big enough hammer anything will fit any hole.

Like the sounds of it but it would have STEEP price tag for 3 shield upgrades. Could be a dual slot card to boot.

Good catch on the fact that Gonk is probably crew. I completely glossed over that it wouldn't be astromech

Duct tape!

They have other uses too...

Anyone else hoping for an EV-9D9 crew card on the Star Jewel?

I love the idea of Gonk being illicit, if only so the Khazicstan Fighter can equip one.

Because "I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-An-X-Wing" needs a one use droid that increases survivability. If only because I like the idea of FFG trolling us.

Chewbacca is effectively +2 Shields (Actually slightly even better, because you can choose just when to trigger him instead of burning one of those shields against hits instead of crits) for the same price as a single Shield Upgrade.

While I expect Gonk to come with drawbacks (Because Scum loves double-edged swords, eh Greedo and the entire Illicit slot to date? Totes not a pattern, no sir!), his price tag may be lower than you assume.

I am sure Gonk is takin a Crew slot, but not sure what he does. Maybe that Overcharged Agromech is the one that gives you three shields and you will have two stress tokens from it, once in a game or something like that. Maybe Gonk could give boost action with some disadvantage?!

I am sure what ever they are, they are awesome! :)

Or how about Gonk giving a extra damage for Feedback array and giving a extra ion token so you would actually get ionized by using that. Just playing with ideas! :)

My prediction on the extra shields (whether it's Gonk or Overcharged Agromech) is that you'll trade your attack for it. e.g. something like:

Action: Gain a number of shield tokens equal to your primary weapon value, then roll a red die. On a [boom], discard this card. You cannot attack with your primary weapon this turn. At the end of this turn, remove a number of shield tokens equal to your primary weapon value.

Second, I should pay your attention to suspiciously high number of stress tokens in this expansion. One or two is normally enough, why five? I think, "Gonk" is something like: "At the start of the first round, add three shield tokens to this ship. Then, receive three stress tokens".

Engine25, I like your idea about temporary buffing defense, but seven shield tokens mean that technically, there must be a moment when all seven are needed within this expansion.

Why do people keep saying this? He's not an Astromech, and can't even possibly serve as one.

edit: I get that not everything has to line up perfectly with lore for gameplay reasons. However, this would be like making C-3PO an Astromech upgrade. It just plain doesn't make sense.

The Xwing-miniaturs wiki lists "Gonk" as crew. Though, where did they get that info?

On the picture its just between Boba, who is crew, and the R(5-P8?) who is a salvaged.

The art clearly shows an power droid. Powerdroids are normally only class 5, whereas astormech droids are class 2 builds.

Not sure if FFG would count Gonk for salvaged. It fits not lorewise, but might be required gamewise. Therefore quite possible as

-as the unique "Gonk" might be quite modified

-to prevent the Rebels who already have several (for the enemy) awful regeneration and shield mechanisms from acquiring one more such mechanism

The solution to that: Scum only. Bam.

I'm going with its a trick. All planned out by those ever observant Game Developers who know we nit pick every shred of evidence and dissect every photo for any and all obtainable information to ponder over endlessly until we derive the correct answers and we eventually obtain these goodies only to no longer really care about them now that they are old news and we have fresh photos and articles to cut our teeth on.

Not that I believe in conspiracies...

It's not a trick....

It's a trap!

I don't get why that shield boost would give you let's say three shields and after turn you would have to subtract three again? What's the point there? :)

You have no shields and expect to get shot, trigger it for 3 shields, take damage (which hits shields) then any remaining shields go away. I think was the thinking.
