Going on pilgrimage

By Mikael Hasselstein, in X-Wing

So this weekend I'm going to be in Minneapolis, attending NerdCon. (I normally live in Portland, OR.)

On Sunday, after the convention, I'm planning to swing by FFG's Games Center.

I'm bringing some bare-bones X-Wing stuff to get a game in. Does anyone live in the area, and want to get a game in? Alternatively, does anyone know the scene well enough to tell me if I'll be wasting my time or not?

I know there's a group of X-WIng players out there called Twin Cities X-Wing or something. Not sure how regularly they play, but I thought I saw a poster for them last time I was at the FFG Game Center. I'm about 4 hours away so I pop in at FFG whenever I'm in the twin cities.

What time on Sunday? I know we been chatting over PM, but I thought you were going on Saturday. If it's Sunday I might be able to meet you there at some time.

Sundays usually sees X-Wing play at a different location but if you join the Twin Cities X-Wing Facebook page I'm sure you can find a match up to meet you at FFG. I would wager your best bet, however, might be Saturday night (8PM) at FFG which is when Late Night X-Wing usually occurs.

There's also a tournament at Universe Games in Minneapolis at noon. And an Imperial Assault tournament at FFG. If you want to find an opponent though, look up Twin Cities X-Wing on Facebook and make a post about looking for a game or two. You'll likely find one.

I'll be there with some squads, but I'll be doing either IA or LOTR LCG as well.

Keep in mind they close at 6 on Sundays.

I'm with the Twin Cities X-Wing group and I run the "Late Night X-Wing" tournament on Saturday night, 8pm-12am.

I know its not Sunday, but if you get done at the convention early swing by for some fun!

I think I'll try to be there at 11am. I noticed that there's a light rail transit center near there, so I won't need a ride.

Thanks for that. Yes, I'm seeing 11am - 6pm.

I'd say AC/DC, but then you know how I fly. I liked 4xAC+hull, but even hit points is someting TLT loves, so...go for per-craft odd and add an extra fighter.

Seems pretty well hardened against TLT, and if you know swarm flying (and I know you do), it pretty much flies like a bog-standard swarm. Just...one that can HIT when it needs to!

I think I'll try to be there at 11am.

Can't be there then. But I hope you find a game and enjoy your trip.

Might want to check your transit info. I don't think there's a light rail station anywhere near the game center.

Yeah, there's a bus but it'll take 45 minutes from downtown. With a car (rental or Uber) it should only take ten minutes from downtown.

If you really want to play while you're in town you should consider going to Universe Games for their weekly Sunday tourney that starts at noon. It's nice playing at FFG (mostly because they have real food and beer on tap) but you're really not missing out if you don't go... it's basically just a fancy food court with a higher than usual percentage of tabletop gamers.

Oh, I will double check the transit stuff, and maybe the tournament will work out better. I'll certainly give it thought.

Xander, buddy, did you wander into the wrong conversation?

Ah, the Rosedale transit center is on a bus line; not light rail.

Okay, I'm back home from being gone. I took advice from folks, and instead of schlepping my way up to the FFG Games Center, I attended a casual little tournament at Universe Games in Minneapolis. The fact that I was also AirBnBing in the neighborhood made it extra convenient.

Here's the report on HNN, always your best lens on what really happened out there in the hostile vacuum of space.

Anyway, many thanks to my opponents, Brett, Zach and Nathan, and to all the other players at Universe Games.
