[EPIC] Imperial vs Rebel

By Wildhorn, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I want the opinion of people used to Epic games.

Are the 2 following list balanced against each others or there is one clearly stronger than the other one and why?

The idea behind each list is:

Empire: The Raider is the main source of power here, backed by Jonus and Howlrunner, allowing it to reroll tons of dice to be sure to land damage. The Advanced Missile are good against everything, but are better saved for the Corvette to quickly take it down. Colzet allow to turn up the hits that would land on the Corvette to make those damage cards to be really nasty. Whisper can either be used to bite the rear of the Corvette or to defend the Advanced from the B-Wing.

Rebel: Raw power. The Y-Wing goal is to take advantage of the lack of green dice of the Raider to TLT it to death while the B-Wing try to take down the Advanced before they can launch their missiles. The Corvette stay in the back until the Advanced menace is over then it can get closer to add the fire of its QLC.

Based on my experience with Epic, I think the Rebel list wins in a landslide here. More hitpoints and more red dice is really what it comes down to, especially with FCS and TLTs upping expected damage so much. Imperials need lots, and lots, and LOTS of ships to win in Epic.

Howlrunner and Jonus make sense because they make your fighters and Raider better, respectively, but I don't think the two Storm Squadrons are better than 4 Obsidian Squadrons...which would in turn make Howlrunner that much better. Also, with all the extra room to maneuver and and considering how many Rebel ships she'll be facing, I don't think Whisper's arc-dodging shenanigans will avail her. Once again, she's costing you as much as 3 Academy Pilots and again make Howlrunner even better.

Now maybe you don't have 8 TIEs laying around, but in general I think you need to be spending a lot less on upgrades and named pilots and just cramming in as many ships as you can. As an Imperial player in an Epic match, if you set up across from a Rebel fleet that has MORE ships than you, you know you're in trouble.

The Rebel squad, on the other hand, seems like a VERY good Epic squad - lots of higher PS generics with minimal upgrades that virtually guarantee damage output along with a lean-and-mean CR90 build is what won the last tournament I was in for my teammate and me.
