Help a new Rebel player with anti TLT/all-comer (limited resources)

By DarthDane, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello and thank you all right off the hop. I have only just started playing X Wing 3 weeks ago but many posts here have already helped me immensely. My local shop has a tourny coming up and while I hold no dillusions of winning I would like to present a solid challenge.

I have so far held my own with about a 50/50 win/loss ratio over roughly 20 games playing with and against various lists. One of the lists responsible for 4 of those losses is 4 tlt y wings. I just cant seem to touch it.

So im begging the community here to help me build a list with what I have that can destroy this list yet still remain competitive against others working with what I have. I can probably swing another expansion pack or two before the tournament. So here is what I have for expansions:

-Core set

-Core set: Force Awakens

-Rebel aces

-B wing

-A wing

-E wing

-K wing

-YT 2400

-1 authothrusters and 1 extra ptl that I traded imp ships for.

Help me FF-G Community...you're my only hope!

Well, I'm finding Poe in his T70 with Autothrusters works pretty well... I like the R5-P9 on that ship myself, but I have seen folks use R2-D2 well... The K-Wing with Miranda is not bad at all... Team up with Jake and his A-Wing seems to work well for me...

I tend to fly my YT-2400 with a Mangler and a pair of Y's with TLT, so probably not as helpful for you...

What have you tried flying against TLTs? It might be a list problem or it might be a tactics problem.

I've been playing around with a Rebel list -- I usually fly Imperial, but wanted to try the following:

I don't recall what FCS came with, so you could swap that out if needed. And the Proton Bombs were just to try 'em out, because I haven't yet (I think they come with the Punisher, so that'd be another sub item).

My hope is that the access to shield regen will reduce the hurt from the 2 damage max TLTs. Miranda can also regen her shields pretty effectively, thanks to TLT + Gunner (1st shot regular, 2nd shot reduce by one die to regen, probably miss that to trigger a primary weapon shot).

In general, you want to try and A) burn TLTs fast and B) try to draw arcs from as few as possible. Corran's job will be to burn one ASAP with his double tap, while Miranda can cause some concern for the TLTs with her Connor Nets (and maybe the bomb, if she wants to make a mad dash for it).

I would be inclined to go with a Jake Tycho Poe build, however this requires you purchasing a Starviper, and ideally a falcon/slave 1 to get the veteran instincts card: in order to get Jake to PS 9.

Dagger Squadron Pilot 24, Ion Cannon 3, FCS 2 = 29

Dagger Squadron Pilot 24, Ion Cannon 3, FCS 2 = 29

Poe 31 + PTL 3 + BB8 2 + Autothrusters, Plasma Torpedo 3 = 41

This squad gives you a couple of control beat-sticks in with the Daggers, and an ace with Poe. They're all reasonably durable. The Daggers are nice toolbox ships with PS4, a bit of maneuvering ability with the Barrel Roll, some control, and FCS to hammer durable ships. The Ion Cannons can be especially nice vs the TLT swarm because they make the a TLT very predictable for a turn. They're great against a lot of things, though. Specifically against TLTs, you'll want Poe to flank and zoom in against the TLT formation. If the Daggers are the first targets, expect to lose one on the second turn, but make it a goal to kill 1 Y and damage another by that time. This will let you kill a second on the third turn with the remaining Dagger and Poe, who should be at short range. Now you'll have a healthy Poe and a damaged Dagger vs two full health Ys, but you should have a big positional advantage because Poe can almost always land at range 1 of one of those Ys. He has the health, mobility, and damage mitigation to solo the two Ys, but the Dagger should be solid insurance. If the TLTs go after Poe first, think about using Ion Cannons to make the Ys drift. Poe can probably be safe from those two Ys, and it will really slow the damage coming at him, as well as let the Bs close to beatdown range.

Against non-TLT lists, use Ions to control the most important targets, always trying to destroy high attack stuff first. Poe can resist huge numbers of low attack value targets, but lots of red dice in one attack can punch through his two greens too easily. Since you have two FCS supported Ion Cannons, you can really force big turrets, or anything else important, to drift in unpleasant ways. The main goal always will be to identify what can cause Poe trouble, sic the Daggers on them, and let Poe mop up the rest.

Good luck.
