are the Rebel corvettes going the way of the dinosaur?

What's the pocket medic?

Feeding tokens for an engine tech's on an MC80, then swooping behind the enemy to overload pulse - is that a good tactic?

Pocket medic is a CR90 with Projection Experts throwing 2 shields a turn onto some bigger, fatter ship that is actually taking damage.

Ok thanks - add Tantive IV and throw over an engineering token too I guess!

Pocket.

Medic.

Speaking as an Imperial, I have not had the pure pleasure of one-shotting (or two-, three-, etc.) a CR90 for a good long while. At Sullust, I saw some new players bring a number of them on the first tournament. The following tournaments they seem to have thought better of it, as they got crushed, and saw the more experienced Rebels flying mostly Assault Frigates.

I think the problem is a lot of Rebel players start off playing core set games when they're still new and don't have a lot of experience and the CR90 can be difficult to use well, as its primary strengths are related to maneuvering (getting in the right arcs, lining up two-arc shots, staying out of effective engagement range of foes while staying within effective harassment range for you, etc.). Thus their early experiences with it are negative (as they don't have the skills yet to make good use of it) and they move on to other ships and don't come back.

In terms of the OP, I think the Corvettes and Torpedo frigates fill very different roles and there's always room for maneuverable light support ships. Corvettes won't be a fitting inclusion in every list but they're still pretty legit, especially with the Turbolaser Reroute Circuits giving them a surprising amount of firepower so long as they feel safe enough to spend the Evade tokens.

I am bad with the CR90. I think I will start running 3 of them to get used to their speed.

Just played 400 points with 2 guppies and 3 corvettes and Akbar. The corvettes are great flanker ships my corvettes killed a victory and did the last 4 damage on an imperial

I think Snipafist has a point about the learning curve aspect. Hopefully, more experienced players will be able to make better use of them. Same goes for the Raider, I think.

Back in the day, Admiral Theia used to beat my pants off using CR90s as rear flankers. With Engine Techs, they can go speed 5, and then with nav tokens and dials, crank the speed down to 2, and then 1 the next turn, to stay in the rear of my fleet.

You, as well as the disastrous (for me) Kelso tournament convinced me of not trying to get around the rear with Gladiators. Your part was in showing how chasing ships is not a good idea, but also people tend to pay attention to flanking Gladiators.

But I think there's certainly a role for corvettes engaging in rear attacks - more so against Imperial fleets, with weaker sides and wider rears, than Rebels.

In general I like the corvettes a lot there amazing ships for the points and the thing aloof people over look is people don't use defense tokens against them because they want to save them for the big ships so 3 or 4 dice will start to put a hurting of stuff.
