Twin Ion Engie on Soontir?

By Rebelinst, in X-Wing

Has anyone tried this 33pt config on Soontir? Did the green banked 3 make clearing stress less predictable or make it easier to stay at range 3?

Mk2 has good cost, my second favorite to 0, but gaining 2 greens (unnecessary IMO) at the cost of a mod slot is INCONTHIEVABLE. I'd rather take Hull, Shield, Stealth, of course Autothrusters, and even Targetting Computer before Mk2.

Soontir has 7 greens, he's squirrelly enough.

This is totally on point. It is a great mod and soonts is a great pilot but somethings aren't meant to be enjoyed together. Like peanut butter and hot sauce.

Unless it's a hot chocolate sauce...

I think I'd more likely put Engine Upgrade on him... (did you see what I did there?)! ;)

Yeah, it just feels like a waste of a point and a mod slot to me. Interceptors have plenty of green already. If you really don't have the points for, like, a Stealth Device, then you're better off just spending the point somewhere else and leaving the mod slot empty.

Sure it adds more options, but Targeting Computer can help him hit harder. Dead things can't shoot back.

Mk2 is the weakest upgrade on TIE interceptors and taking a mod slot as well as costing 1 point you get the worst value.

As before some upgrades which does stat and dial modifications tend to be priced on either the high end or low end of points. For example Engine upgrade might not be worth 4 points on a TIE advanced but it is worth every 4 points on a large base ship. However because of that you would call it on the high bid for upgrade points. On the other end of the spectrum you have Veteran instincts which ups pilot skill by 2 for a cost of 1. Normally the only ship that gets that advantage is low cost TIE fighters and at higher skills it often comes at 1 point per pilot skill so that upgrade would be at the low bid. Not so good on Black Squadron but awesome on 7 or 8 pilot skill ships where it would traditionally be 2 points for +2 skill.

TIE mk 2 is closer on the low bid but not that close. Getting an extra pair green banks for 1 point would be about average bid, but with the meta so finely tuned you don't want average, you need better! No one lives off of breaking even in investments, you will need more than what you put in and upgrades are the same way. For 1 point you want to get at least 2 pairs of green banks or more.
