Ideas for named pilots from X-Wing which haven't been covered yet

By TheRealStarkiller, in Star Wars: Armada

Captain Jonus:

"While a friendly squadron with Bomber at distance 1 is attacking it may reroll 1 black die" - 14-15 (?) Points

Jonus is all about rerolls. Restricted to Bombers only to keep him affordable.

-> Role: Giving the Bombers teeth vs. ships and vs. squadrons.

"Backstabber":

"While attacking, the defender can't use red (used) state defense tokens" - 12-14 (?) Points

Backstabber reduces the ability of his opponent to evade his shots.

-> Role: Backup-attacker vs. named pilots.

"Dark Curse":

"When being attacked by a squadron, flip red state defense tokens back to green state" - 12-14 (?) Points

Dark Curse always stays slippery. You need to aim very well to hit him.

-> Role: Sole-blocker of bomber herds.

I had actually been putting a bit of thought into these already - I wouldnt be surprised at all if FFG releases a Figher pack V2 with new heroes but the same ships.

Here are some of my suggestions.

Biggs Darklighter - X Wing

When an enemy squadron that you are engaged with is attacking, it must attack you if possible.

(basically an escort for escorts, just like in X-Wing)

Night Beast - TIE Fighter

When attacking, if you have not moved this activation you may reroll an attack dice.

(based on his free focus token for a green manuver in x-wing)

Horton Salm - Y Wing

When attacking you may reroll one blank result

(from X-wing rerolling blanks)

Backstabber - TIE Fighter (alternate suggestion)

When attacking a squadron you may nominate one defense token. If the defender uses it against your attack they must discard it.

Maarek Stele - TIE Advanced

When attacking, you may change a critical result to either a hit or accuracy facing.

(based on chosing the worst crit card of 3 in X-Wing, allowing him here to mod his crits to what he needs to do the most damage)

Arvel Crynyd - A Wing

When attacking a squadron or ship that you are in base contact with, you may reroll one of your attack dice.

(basically to theme with his ramming role in ESB)

Turr Phennir - TIE Interceptor

After you perform an attack, you may ready one of your defense tokens.

(in homage to his free boost or barrel roll in X-Wing after attacking)

Ten Numb - B Wing

When attacking, if you roll a critical result you may add one accuracy result to your dice pool.

(in homage to his unblockable crit in X-Wing)

Ibtisam - B Wing

When attacking, if you have discarded defense tokens you may reroll any dice in your attack pool.

(In homage to his free reroll for being stressed in X-Wing)

I agree on Jonus for the TIE Bomber,

This is all about ideas and how you imagine the pilots.

Turr Phennir:

"After attacking you may disengage and move up to distance 2" - 15-16 (?) Points

This reflects his ability to BR out of range or boost out of firing arcs after he attacked.

-> Role: Hit and run

Maarek Stele:

"Black [crit]: The defender discards an upgrade card of his choice" - 18-20 (?) Points

+Bomber, Battery armament: +1 black die

This is not quite as in X-Wing - it reflects the systematically dismantlement of capital ships like in the Tie Fighter computer games.

-> Role: Capital ship attacker, like Luke on the Rebel side.

Maarek's going to cost more than a corvette, right?

Yeah, I think discarding upgrades is a bit too powerful for any squadron.

Exhausting an upgrade card though? that could be really nasty off a squadron command.

Maarek Stele:

"Black [crit]: You may exhaust an upgrade card on the defender. It's effect cannot be triggered by the defender this round" - 18-20 (?) Points

+Bomber, Battery armament: +1 black die

I was not sure what to expect when I came to this thread, but I'm quite impressed with virtually all of these pilots. I shared some initial concerns about Maarek's discard upgrade ability, as well, but the exhaust effect sounds cool to me, though it probably would need some fine tuning (can you exhaust any upgrade--enhanced armaments or ACMs/APTs?--or just exhaustible upgrades--tractor beams, intel officer, etc?).

I think most of us expect to see an official aces pack at some point. Don't know if any of these will make it, but some custom cards of these guys would be pretty cool. :)

Well, you would need to lock him down or take him out quickly.

Since Maarek has the Escort keyword, you can attack him anytime using squadrons.

But lets tone him down a bit:

Maarek Stele:

"When attacking, before assigning a faceup damage card to the defender you may choose to let the defender discard an upgrade card of his choice instead" - 18-20 (?) Points

+Bomber, Battery armament: +1 blue die

So its only working if there are no shields left.

What about this for Arvel:

When you attack an enemy ship, instead of making an attack as normal you may instead suffer 4 damage to deal one face up damage card to that ship.

I wouldn't make him too much more expensive than a standard a-wing, based on the one shot nature of that ability. The wording is a little clunky to make sure that you can't use defense tokens on his ability.

If we had another fighter pack what would it be?

Rebs: Ewing, z95, kwing,

Imps: shuttle, defender, punisher.

I like the direction..

How about:

Arvel Crynyd

"When you are destroyed, choose an enemy ship in medium range. This ship is dealt 2 faceup damage cards."

Remember the movies! Arvel was already shot and burning when he steered (or it was even out of control at this point) his fighter into the bridge of the SSD.

A lot of good ideas there, even if the wording could use some polishing in some cases.

FWIW, here are a bunch of unique squadrons from Shipyards:

...and the whole Jedi Starfighter set (still awaiting tweaking/revision):

My dream to have an excuse for more x's on the table...

Rogue Squadron X-wing: Spd 3 Hull 5 ASqd: 4 blue AShp: 1 black

bomber, rogue, 16 pts

How about porkins that has mirthal mauler ability of causing damage when he moves next to you

Make Porkins an absolutely Dirt-Cheap X-Wing (like, X-Wing Stats but only 4-5 points).

But he has the inverse of Mauler's Ability.

Whenever he is engaged by an enemy Squadron, he suffers one damage.
