Does anyone know what paint matches the colors of the scyk/kihraxz fighters? I was thinking it would be cool to paint up some other ships to match, like maybe a Firespray or HWK.
Matching paint colors...
You might take one of the ships to a hobby shop with a good stock of Vallejo paints and try and match the ship vs the color cards. You might also try a google search. I would think someone has either matched the color or has a mix that comes close.
Here's a off the wall idea that may or may not work. Some paint stores have a color analyzer that breaks a color down to its component colors. You could try and have them scan the ships to get a color match. I don't know how big or small the window is so it may not work with the ships. It might be worth a try though.
Hope this helps.
I'm interested as well. I've got a spare HWK I've thought about painting in those colors, if I could figure out what they are.
I've got a full Citadel set and I didn't have much trouble matching the colors.
The green is really easy - it is pretty much a straight match for Death World Forest. For highlights (like the streaks on the Kihraxz's wings) use Elysian Green.
The red is trickier - there wasn't anything straight out of the pot that was close. A 50/50 mix of Doombull Brown (a rich, reddish-brown) and Pink Horror got me pretty close. The tone is right but the shade is a hair light - I think it would be about perfect after a black wash. At the very least, it should be close enough that you would have to look very critically to see any differences.

Vallejo's Green Grey is a close match for the olive-colored part, especially after a dark wash. It's in their Model Color line. (My only good local source of acrylic paints is a hobby & model store, and they don't carry game paint lines.)
I don't have an out-of-the-bottle match for the purple but a mix of 1 white : 1 blue : 2 red is spot on. (All bright, basic colors.)
Can't help with the gray.
Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I checked around on Google before posting. Couldn't find anything helpful. I do intend to bring the model with me to the shop to compare, but I thought I'd ask for ideas first.
That red/maroon/purple/whatever color is a strange one, isn't it?
foundry paints have an amazing range, i use them for my repaints.
I'd say the base of both fighters is close to foundry 'moss shade', the purple could be any one of the dozens of purples they do.
Foundry paint is the same manufacturer of paint that GW used in the 80s before there paint became terrible and was sold in pots that caused it to dry out.

Frankly amazing paints at a sensible price considering the pots are almost twice the size of citadel paints. I painted an entire WWII repro german M35 steel helmet with a pot of 'slate grey shade' and stillh had half a pot left when i'd finished.

It really is. I played around with a lot of combinations trying to match it until I settled on Doombull Brown and Pink Horror. The mix of a reddish-brown and a slightly purplish-pink finally got it for me. I made a lot of different swatches trying to get there though.

I used a browser based color picker to snag these - should be fairly close approximations

With those hex codes - you could then use these pages to find approximations / compare Citadel vs Valejo vs hex code & mix your own

Quarrel, there are cross reference charts available that match model air, model color and game color. Do a google search for Vallejo paints cross reference. Not all the colors match up across all three lines but most do. The charts also so matches for P3 and Citadel paints.

Computer displays are notoriously terrible at providing good, close representations of physical object colors. There's too much variance from screen to screen.I used a browser based color picker to snag these - should be fairly close approximations
You are correct that screens vary but the hex value was captured in browser from the image so the color variation of my screen is irrelevant - I could have my monitor values cranked up to turn my screen red to my eyes and the value the color picker snagged would be exactly the same. Now - the graphics card could be doing wacky things and that might make a difference.
Also - the hex value is useful information given the links I posted correlate hex values to Citadel paint names.
Also also - I said it was a fair approximation not exact ![]()
