Doing Scum without Most Wanted Expansion?

By ThePinkyBrains, in X-Wing

So far, I only have imperials. Now I decided that I want to do scum, but I'm not a huge fan of Z95s and Y wings. I do have a firespray, scum firespray dial, and Boba Fett's scum card and base insert. Will I be shooting myself in the foot if I don't get the expansion?

Considering you don't have any Y's or Z-95's, I would say should be fine. If memory serves right there is nothing amazing for the Firespray in most wanted that you shouldn't already have.

Although that doesn't leave much room for squad building at the moment if your not using Y's and Z's.

It's a great add on with a huge amount of scum only cards that add more options to the fleet. I believe it's a good purchase for the scum

5 x Kihraxz = 100 points

Nah. I love Z's and Y'z, but if you don't like them you can skill run Firesprays, Aggressors, and YV's and have great scum fun. There are some good cards in the expansion (K4 comes to mind) but I think most are available elsewhere.

The only Scum cards you'd be able to use (on a Firespray) that're unique to Most Wanted are Greedo and the Andrasta title (which is only necessary if you want to spam bombs, and even then you could use Slave I+Extra Munitions for 2 bombs, which is cheaper).

Otherwise, you can get K4 Security Droid and Outlaw Tech in the Hound's Tooth, Hot Shot Blaster in the IG-2000.

You didn't mention HWKs, so if you did want to play 'em MW is the only current source, but other than that it's not necessary.

Once the Punishing One comes out, if you're interested in that the current salvaged astromechs are only available in Most Wanted, but that'll be a few months out at best.

I feel like I'll probably end up with a set eventually, but I was mainly looking short term. I like the M3As and the star viper, and as far as I can tell they both come with enough stuff to make them decent. Though I haven't heard very good things about the little Scyks.

Scyks are good support to the rest of your list.

Scum hwks are fun ships. Especially with TLT.

Dual Aggressors and a Starviper or two. SInce you have the stuff for Scum Boba you could even just get one Aggressor and still be competitive.

A Hound's Tooth is okay also, but probably best with a generic one with 5 z-'s.

5 x Kihraxz = 100 points

This.

I really like the scummy Y's so I am obligated to suggest you should too. Having said that vipers, kirzhzxgrconsonant fighters and skycks all have fun and the aggressor is a blast. I haven't flown my 666 yet, o can't comment there.

This just doesn't have the visual appeal of a tie swarm to me. Maybe it's because the image of a tie swarm is familiar from the movies and such, and the kihraxz is relatively unfamiliar to me.

The scyk just takes a lot of good planning and a little luck. If you don't have a solid plan, you'll need a lot of luck to make them work. In my experience, they can really do some work, compared to TIEs. Of course, in my experience they've also been one-shot like TIEs. The more you fly with them the more you will understand them.

Dual IGs.

A StarViper for Autothrusters, a Hounds Tooth for a meatshield (Given you're lacking in Z95s).

The rest? Eh, you can pick 'em up as you get a craving. ;)

I think Scum are playable without it, but there is a lot of great stuff in there for a reasonable price. Aggressors are awesome, and there are enough other Scum ships to fill in the gaps, but I have to say "Most Wanted" was one of the expansions I've enjoyed most, and added the most to game play in a single purchase (assuming you already had a Firespray and a Hawk). If anything, I think the set makes a great case for owning at least one HWK-290. I'm not a huge fan of the ship, but it is hard to argue with its versatility across two factions.

That said, Boba Fett, the Hound's Tooth, a pair of Aggressors, a couple Star Vipers, some M-3As and at least one Kihraxz for "the Cobra" would make for some solid builds. At this point, I think it can be done without "Most Wanted".

I started scum recently and I started with most wanted, a kihraxz and the tooth. In my opinion MW is the best value for money expansion in the game. It's cheaper than a core set with 3 ships, further dials and bases for two existing ships and a whole pile of upgrade cards. Not to mention you won't get full use of the hounds tooth box without at least 1 z95. Plus with the new TLTs and unhinged astromechs scum Y wings are pretty good at the moment.

If you want to run a Firespray in the scum fashion I do believe you need the Most Wanted set for the pilot cards and tiles. That said I'd say its a good play just for some of the upgrades (crew, mods, illicit and mechs). If you don't want any of that I'd just Team Covenant the pilots and tiles but by then you're probably spending enough that you might as well just buy the Most Wanted box for the models if anything, to be honest a next Y-wing was my primary motivation for it.

I currently have for the Scum: 1 Firespray, 2 Y's (one from the Most wanted, one from the standard expansion), 4 Z's (2 and 2 respectively as before), 1 HWK, 1 Starviper and 1 Kihraxz. I'd not be able to properly play any of that save the Viper and Kihraxz were it not for most wanted.

Agreed. Unlike most cheapish generics, Scyks aren't fillers. They are specialized ships that are in your list to perform one particular task, usually getting a crit or an ion token (less frequently a stress token) through on a ship that's now out of focus/evade/shields. Control snipers, basically, and if you're treating them as anything else you'll probably lose.

Perfectly possible to play Scum without Most Wanted, depending on what you want to fly. Dual Aggressors are a popular Scum list, StarVipers, Scyks and Kihraxz all work well together, and all three come with useful upgrades that can support your Imperials as well.

There's actually only one Illicit Upgrade in the Most Wanted set, and if you don't like Y-Wings or Z95s then the Astromechs and Y-Wing upgrades won't be that useful - but it DOES come with a lot of fantastic pilots. Scum Boba and Kath Emon Azzameen and the Mandalorian Mercenary, for a start. And even if you don't like the ships in the box, both Kavil and N'dru are great pilots as well.

You don't need it in the same way you don't need anything with the suffix "-wing" to play Rebel.

The StarViper, M3A, Aggressor, Kihraxz and YV-666 (although not the Hound's Tooth itself) and the Punishing One and Mist Hunter in Wave 8 do give you a fairly good set of options. You've also got a Firespray, even if you're limited to one pilot.

Obviously if you don't plan on using anything from it MW isn't worth it. To get the most from it you need a Y-wing, a HWK and a Firespray to convert, giving you two Scum Y-wings, two Scum Z-95s, a Scum Firespray and a Scum HWK. If you'd only use the Firespray then given you have one already I'd pass on it.

Better to not get it, find you want to use stuff from it and buy it later than to get it now and never use it.

The pack is top value if only for the cards. I've used the Y-wing and Z95s maybe once, but all the upgrades and other pilot cards for the Firespray and HWK are great for the price. But then I run all three factions as well.

Given that a lot of people have multiple 'most wanteds' for the ships you should be able to pick up the bits you need in the way of upgrades pretty cheaply.

Im in the UK and if you were nearer i'd happily post you a set of Most Wanted pilot cards and a HWK dial and base chits.

Short answer: No, you don't need to buy Most Wanted.

Considering what you have and what you want to do, I'd suggest not buying it until you want to explore the Scum options for the Y, Z, and HWK. If you never have that urge, then the only things you're missing are the other Firespray pilots.

I really enjoy Scum and I think Most Wanted is a fantastic expansion, but you're fine without it (at least for now- you may change your mind).

After looking at it, I think one of the best scum purchases for an imperial player is the star viper, for the 2x autothrusters and accuracy corrector.

The only Scum ships you can use Autothrusters on are the Starviper or Aggressor.

But Guri and Boba with the right upgrades could be something you'd enjoy flying.

Fairly easy to do scum without most wanted. 2 Aggressors and a Starviper for 2x autothrusters and you got a scum list.
