New Core Set Rulebook in PDF?

By greasyspoon42, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I picked up the new core set and I really like the rule book I can find what I am looking for pretty quick and easy. I went to FFG site and I could not fine a PDF of it which I used on my phone for quick reference when I play, so I don't have to worry about loseing my book. Does anybody know if they will release soon as a PDF? if not I can scan it but that is a bit of work on my side, plus theirs will look better.

Thanks

Both the Learn to Play booklet and the Rules Reference one are on the site. Main x-wing page, at the bottom where it says 'Rules'.

Thanks, I can swear I checked them I thought they were the old books. Sorry for doing something stupid.

They were the old version for a couple of days after the release of the new core. You might have checked before they updated them.

It must have been very recent because I swear I just downloaded it two weeks ago.

I haven't purchased the new core set and just browsed the rule book, are there any significant changes outside what has been covered in the FAQ? If I download this and use it for my rule reference with the "old" set, will I be setting myself up for failure somehow? Thanks.

The new rules are meant to replace the old ones. For the most part things are the same. There are some minor changes due to stream lining the rules a bit. There were a few threads that detail all of the changes. It seems like the biggest change is when stress is checked. This happens inside of the "execute maneuver" step instead of after it. It had a major change on Night Beast and Dauntless.

A few other notable changes:

- Due to a change in the attack steps Dark Curse can now be attacked by Blaster Turrets

- Boosts, barrel-rolls, and decloaks are now invalid if they would put a ship off the board.

- You can target lock a target you already have a lock on.

- If you hit more than one obstacle during a maneuver they all affect you.

Something I recently noticed about the Rules Reference guide is that there is an inconsistency in the language regarding spending Focus tokens.

In the section about the Focus action it says "Ships with the focus icon in their action bar may perform the focus action. To perform the action, assign one focus token to the ship. When attacking or defending, the ship may spend that token to change all of its (focus) results to (hit) results (on attack dice) or (evade) results (on defense dice). All unspent focus tokens are removed from ships during the End phase."

However on the back cover of the same book under the Quick Reference Guide it says the following: "Focus: Place 1 focus token on the ship. During the Combat phase, spend it to change all of the ship’s (focus) results to (hit) results (when attacking) or to (evade) results (when defending)."

The difference is minor, but it is significant for Corran Horn, who makes his "Double Tap" attack during the End phase. If the Quick Reference guide is the correct interpretation then Corran can't spend any Focus tokens on his attack and his target wouldn't be able to spend any Focus or Evade tokens in defense. My guess is that the version found in the actual Reference Guide is the correct one, but as of now they are inconsistent.

Nice catch. In the case of conflicts the text in the rules should trump the text on what is meant to be a quick reference to help people learn the flow of the game.

are there any significant changes outside what has been covered in the FAQ? .

Here is the thread that discusses what was changed. Most of the changes are in the first post so you probably don't have to read beyond that. The thread did spiral into bickering about halfway in so even if you read past the first page, you can stop when people start being difficult.

Do note that when you google for X-Wing rules pdf you'll get old version.
