Skirmish vs wargames

By Ryertangent, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

As someone new to the hobby and wanting to get into a small skirmish type game. I was wondering, how does the skirmish mode compare to other games you have played more specifically Infinity?

I am debating between the two of them. Thanks for any responses.

Two completely different games. Infinity is more complex, but takes longer to play.

My group plays IA and Infinity, and they are both good for different reasons. Depends really on what you are looking for in a miniatures game.

As far as miniatures go, would painting these be any different than higher quality like infinity?

No not at all. They're actually pretty good models and models, and take paint quite nicely. Just prime and paint like you would any other mini.

Me and some of my IA campaign group have Infinity as well. I'm the only one who plays IA Skirmish, and we all kind of got into Infinity because each one of us had a faction that kind of fit our personalities. I ended up with the PanO Religious Orders...but to tell you the truth, I've had so much fun painting the IA stuff, all my PanO's are still sitting in Primer and I haven't laid a brush on them.

Cost wise though, I can see IA costing me way more in the long run. Now that I have an Infinity army of about 25 figures, I don't see myself buying anything for quite a while...but IA, I just can't help myself!

The IA minis are a relatively soft plastic. This makes them fairly easy to convert, but it means you'll have to deal with things like bent/deformed barrels and so forth. Quality is pretty good; I haven't really seen any bad casts, but lots of bent & curved weapons. They do lack that satisfying heft that a pewter mini has, so you might consider weighting and/or rebasing them if that's an issue for you.
