Kath and Obsidians

By DoccSampson, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I plan on running this tonight, just casually. What do you guys think?

Kath Scarlett

VI

Mangler Cannon

Tactician

Obsidian Squadron Pilot

Obsidian Squadron Pilot

Ideally, Kath has the ability to double stress high agility ships at range 2. Her ability synergizes well with Mangler, as a cancelled crit gives the defender a stress. The list clocks in at 97 points, giving her a strong initiative bid against the Soontirs and Whispers. The Obsidians are PS 3 to attempt to counter heavy TLT lists. I'll report back with the results.

You have a few free points, why not up Tactician to Rebel Captive? I would think it would kick in more often than Tactician, and can let you stress multiple targets a turn.

I'm not a huge fan of Mangler on the Firespray. Just seems like a large point investment to change 1 hit to a crit. I do realize that it synergizes with Imperial Kath to equal a stress when cancelled though. I'd personally prefer Engine Upgrades to help make sure I keep my target in my arc.

I'd 2nd the swapping out of Tactician as well. Rebel Captive is solid and works with your semi-stress sub-theme. I also love Recon Spec on the Firespray.

I've flown a similar stress build on Kath a fair bit - you 100% need Engine Upgrade.

VI and init bid isn't that useful if you don't have a position modifier. More importantly, EU will drastically improve Kath's survivability (currently your 48-pt ship is as durable as a naked Bounty Hunter). Both the speed and high-PS arc-dodging are necessary to keep her alive. Even if your opponents don't recognize Kath as the real threat, they probably won't want to grind through TIE fighters and will default to shooting her.

I would drop the Obsidians to APs to fit EU.

Rebel Captive is great as a late-game closer and will deter some shooting, but Tactician is solid as well - especially if you want to keep that 97 init bid.
