I need some help guys

By Zanos, in X-Wing

Recently I've been really trying to get back into x wing and...well, I've been getting whooped. I'd like to do something with jake and/ or tycho, or something with vader and either defenders (my all time favorite ship) or some more tie advanced. But it seems like i just can't get how to maneuver against someone anymore, I get led into traps, or just cant find the right way out of a situation. I'm going to force myself to practice as much as I can but I was wondering if you guys had any tips or tricks. I've been especially having trouble with fighting rebel squads, like 4 ships

and basically anything that has stressbot.

Can't help with spatial awareness that comes from practice using the ship but I can help with defenders.

You can try vessery with VI accompanied by three advanced with accuracy corrector, the advanced last a while because you can use their action for defence and vessery never wants for target locks.

Wouldn't you rather have ATCs with Vessery though? AC Advanceds would prefer to take evade actions.

My preferred wingmen for Vessery are lower PS pilots with target lock and ideally some way of causing crits. Storm, Alozen, Colzet, Strom, Tempest, Epsilon and Omicron, for example. If Vessery has VI, Stele, Eclipse and Omega Ace become good choices. If you're pairing Vessery with a higher PS pilot, Fire Control System is very useful: Echo, Whisper and Redline are good choices. Now I'm almost tempted to try a 666 squad with Jendon, Vessery and Echo. ;)

Only practice can keep you out of traps. If you've been out of the game for awhile there will be a lot of new traps to learn.

Honestly just about any four ship rebel build gets to me

Bs and a Y, quad t-70s hit me hard last night, it's just kryptonite to me for some reason I can never see how to actually outfly it when it comes down to the game.

As an Imperial pilot, remember to avoid jousting. Fly past them if you have to and jockey for a better angle. Force the slow and predictable Rebels ships into making bad decisions.

Unless you are a swarm. Then go at it.

thanks for the help guys that vessery list looks like a blast. So in most cases against a rebel 4 ship or similar squad, unless you have a squad you know without a doubt can out joust it you should play really carefully and only make a move when you know you have easy unblockable escape routes and safe shots on them? it feels like I'm talking common sense but I get the feeling there's a lot I still don't understand about this game.

How should x wing style ships like Poe and Corran be flown? I love both of them but have never really had success with them

You can always find a local who is at least kind of good to help to a learning game with you. Take it turn by turn and analyse your moves and options. That is if you can find someone that wants to do that with you.

Falling into traps is a great way to learn about said traps and expect them. It's like touching fire helps you learn its bad. :) Just expect to suck for a little bit.

You know I usually use Vader/ATC for spotting but actually low PS make sense - as long as they get the locks. Since the tempests will spend after Vessery he can use the locks fine.

Even then... If all 7 TIES have a shot on any given cluster of 4 B-wings, and the same can be said about the B-wings against the TIES.... Which side do you think is going to come out ahead of that joust? There is a second part to "strength in numbers" and that is, the numbers minimize how hard they can be hit back.
