Whole lotta boats out there now

By Rortharr, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

So Chronicles of the Gatekeeper has been on the boat long enough that now Keeping the Peace is ALSO on the boat! And it's ahead of Chronicles on the Upcoming list, so I'm compelled to imagine a scenario in which the container ship carrying Keeping the Peace zipped past the one carrying Chronicles of the Gatekeeper, presumably with the captain blowing raspberries the entire time.

Seriously, I thought Chronicles was supposed to be released by this point. Anyone with a friend in the international shipping industry who can shed some light on why the boats seem to be so slow recently?

I think the logical theory has something to do with the docks being backed up. The leading theory is that the 'boat' is actually a dinghy. Me, I'm fond of the "ran afoul of a Nazi u-boat somehow" theory. Take your pick.

Nazi U-Boats, Pellucidar, dinosaurs. Man, this ones got 'em all!

I looked it up. It is because of the strike at the LA ports. There is a HUUUUUGGGGGEEEE log jam....Most likely the FFG containers are still in the port...If only we knew the container number we could liberate them :P

Is this a backup caused by the strikes last spring, or is there was a new round of strikes going on right now? I tried looking it up yesterday, but didn't see anything since June.

Shipping rpg books ain't like dusting crops kid!

This is the logjam caused by those strikes.

Think of all the products that are made overseas and imported to the US.

Now, have them stop being received by the US's main west-coast customs yard for 3 months.

Finally, have the same longshoreman crew try to catch up on 3 months of backlog AND all the normal scheduled traffic.

I think we're lucky we have Force And Destiny, personally...

The yards should have hired extra longshoremen as soon as the strike ended.

They all got stuck when they tried to leave the port.

According to This News Report from September 15th, there is an issue with the Pac9 port truckers. What this effectively means is that any product that has come int and gotten processed isn't going anywhere until the strike gets resolved.

Though This Report also mentions there are shipping container shortages, which means that product aboard a vessel can't be off-loaded to then be put on trucks to ship out of the dock.

In summation ... a lot is going wrong on the docks in LA - so it stands to reason there is a huge discrepancy in the time something takes to get processed through.

...UGH.

Even better.

<_<

Oddly enough, I got an e-mail saying my pre-order of Chronicles of the Gatekeeper and Strongholds of Resistance shipped out from Miniature Market. This happen to anyone else, be it Miniature Market or somewhere else? I'm cautiously optimistic and am going to try e-mailing them later to confirm they didn't just mess up my order and send me something else.

All the more reason to stage a liberation.... what could possibly go wrong..... Its just longshoremen.....I hear they are nice....

On one hand, a whole bunch of books hitting shelves at the same time. On the other hand, having to pay for a whole bunch of new books that hit the shelves at the same time.

Unhappy wife problem yo.

I get by with a book from time to time as they are released. Showing my live-in accountant a bill for $100 in game books all at once can be an issue. :)

Well, time to go pawn some stuff. Sell a kidney to that nice doctor who works out of the alley behind the town garage.

Explain that the Armada Basic set is an "Asset" that will only appreciate. Particularly due to the current shipping conditions on the west coast US! :) This can be used as an offset to fund ... oh forget it. I'd ask for more Obligation!

Where are the Corellian smugglers when you need them....

That's not going to work. The union is protecting the ability of the workers to earn money from the fallout of the strike. Hiring more would disperse the money and work against what the strikers wanted. Remember, for them, this is their primary source of livelihood. For us, it's game books.

Droids can't come fast enough...
