Wow...10 weeks...

By Daeglan, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Jar Jar was a stupid character but I don't have an issue with the race. The things I liked about the PT was the places and races. The Gungans exiled him, so clearly they agreed he was a dumb character....

I only skimmed the article and I'm too lazy to Ctrl+F Gungan on the page. Did they even announce Gungan or are we assuming because it is a prominent race on an included planet?

It's there.

Hmmm yeah, skipped over that entire section previously for some reason. Interesting species choices.

China is also not allowing exports of raw rare earth metals which are needed to make a lot of the processors and other chips to go into things like iPhones.

The US and other countries are restarting their Rare Earth extraction processes, but that’s not going to save them from the critical loss of job skills that has happened over the last few decades.

Those skills moved overseas along with the jobs, and they’re not coming back.

What might come back is fully automated production systems to replace the people who currently have those job skills, and thus allow the re-onshoring of that work.

The US shutdown all the various mines that it used to have due to environmental complaints (the largest mine in the US for rare earth metals is in California). So, that puts a crimp on some places wanting to build stuff elsewhere.

That’s the history, but we’re in the process of re-opening some of them now.

But it still takes years and years and even decades to get that kind of process restarted, especially in the modern regulatory climate where you really do have to take a bit more care than just open strip mining of the most toxic materials on the planet.

Much like with the divisive inclusion of the Hutts species in Lords of Nal Hutta, we are give 4 species in this book as opposed to the usual 3. It's almost as if FFG knew that Gungans were going to be a contentious choice and included it in the book as freebie.

Of the four, that's not the one that I'd consider the freebie, but I'm biased.

Why are we getting Gungans in a Force and Destiny sourcebook? Read this theory for the answer.

Yeah, Jar Jar really ruined it for the Gungans.

Gungans have potential:

I agree. Tarpals and Boss Nass were pretty competent, and that one female Gungan who helped save the whole galaxy during the Blue Shadow Virus debacle. Not to mention the Gungan army who shipped themselves across the galaxy to help save the Mon Calamari without any fuss or haggling.

Poor first impression for a pretty heroic bunch.

Gungans are pretty awesome.

Interesting read.

Strongholds of Resistance is shipping now.

Yeah, Jar Jar really ruined it for the Gungans.

Ok, that looks *really* fuggly that close up, but the mini in person is really sweet.

I was just able to order a copy of Gatekeeper so I'm thinking it's in the wilds.

There is one seller offering Strongholds of Resistance on Amazon but the shipping cost is absurd

That listing has been there for weeks, and the delivery estimate has been (and remains) a vague "December 8th - December 23rd." Give it another week or two, and a few more vendors should show up on Amazon selling it, with a more reliable delivery date. And if we really get lucky, it will even be Prime eligible.

Forgot they had a new playable species in Chronicles of the Gatekeeper. Nothing major, but a nice little bonus.

So, that leaves what, Keeping the Peace, as the only thing left "on the boat"?

For all of SWRPG stuff? Yes.

Then there is Nexus of Power in development, and Lead by Example at the printer.

Yes, just referring to the SWRPG stuff. My wallet cannot support any of their other lines.

Glad to see some movement in products at last, even if they are all coming at once.

Chronicles of the Gatekeeper just arrived here. ;)
