Poe reporting in! (Repaint)

By Dustparticles, in X-Wing

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum but have been playing on the tabletop for several months now. I was very excited to get my hand on the new core set when it became available, however, flying a grey and blue Poe didn't really do it for me.

Behold the glorious black and orange! (just in time for Halloween)

Let me know what you folks think :)

I think the shade of orange is too bright. But it looks good!

It's missing a few grey bits, but otherwise it's great! Here, I'll give you a reference.

Thanks! The light source that I used makes the orange look totally different in these images. It's a lot more subdued in real life, however it is still a bit brighter than it "should" be. I'm thinking of toning it down a tad. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks! I was having trouble finding a clean source of reference for these areas. Ill have to update my paint job to include the details in your reference images :)

Woohoo! Nice work! I was planning on doing mine this Friday. Glad to see the orange and black hitting the scene!

Very crisp, nice work :)

I'm gonna add a vote for awesome.

Though I really recommend adding some detail shading and stuff to the orange, now you have a reference...

:)

How do you do the blue you put on the canopy?

I look forward to the updates. OP your paintjob is quite nice, really.

How do you do the blue you put on the canopy?

I started with a solid coat of very light pastel blue and left it to dry for a few hours (important). After that it was just a matter of applying a blue wash (I use Vallejo) over the light blue and controlling the pooling to create the effect.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words and suggestions!

Very nice! I'm planning to do the same eventually (just got Imperial Assault and am busy painting that for now).

I'll wait for the, inevitable, official version. Don't trust my painting skills.

.....ah.....my old high school colors......!

I like the exhaust port detailing!

I love the canopy work, it's really excellent! Very nice lines too.

Good job!

Good work you even did the droid.

Thank you sir, I will be sure to post an update once I can squeeze in some more painting time!

After doing mine, I'm really impressed with how sharp your lines are. My lines are a little fuzzy. Here's a shot below. Unfortunately, my wife is out of town for a week and she took the camera with her, so all I had to take a picture with was my 3DS.

It seems I still missed some grey parts and I think my cannons are too light at the silver part. Yours looks much better there.

The sharp lines were definitely not an easy task! It took a lot of time and some correction with a very tiny brush to get it to the point where I was happy with the model. I think you picked the perfect orange though! You also picked up on a lot of the grey detailed I missed. I still haven't had the chance to sit down and paint again, but hopefully I can have my model completed this weekend. You should try a bit of subtle grey highlighting on your model, it will give the black more depth :). I'd like to see a better pic once your wife returns!

I understand the idea behind highlights, but I've never successfully done it. I just have a hard time getting to blend well. Or maybe the shade difference between my base coat and my highlight is just too wide.

Hey! I just found an old camera! Let's see if these shots do my model justice.

Have you ever tried drybrushing?

If not I'd be willing to teach you sometime (its incredibly simple once you get the hang of it)

I've done a little bit of it, but not much. That's how I got the highlights on Luke's hair and Garkhaan's fur in Imperial Assault, but I haven't really used it on my X-Wing repaints. I wouldn't mind a demo some time, though. Thanks!
