Loose peg hole on T-70 X-Wing

By Richard_Thomas_, in X-Wing

I noticed yesterday that one of the T-70 X-Wings I have has a really loose fitting 'peg hole'. No matter which peg I tried it was really slack, letting the ship swivel around easily whilst on the base.

Other than modifying a peg and always using that I can't think of a fix other than gluing a peg in permanently which I don't want to do.

Are there any other options?

Not sure if this would work but you could paint/spray the inside with some layers of varnish (cover the rest of the model), then try if it is too narrow, and cut a little out agian until its fitting. Probably it less than a milimeter on each side so it might work.

Also might wear off again after some time.

Ressisting the obvious joke here isn't easy, thoughts about hot dogs and hallways keep surfacing in my mind.

I haven't messed with my T-70s, but I have noticed that my TIE/FOs fit very loosely on older pegs. I had to dig around in my stash to find pegs that fit snugly and keep them sorted just for the TIE/FOs. I've been thinking about bringing Blue Tac or some clear poster adhesive with me to avoid the loose peg problem.

I did notice older pegs don't fit the k-wing and punisher I assumed they'd got thicker pegs due to increased size maybe there was a mix up in packing at the factory.

My friends K-wing base mounted peg fell off the ship and one of the under wing rockets/missiles pods also detached when he opened the packet. We glued them back on ok but now the internal base mount and peg won't hold together either.

I have the same issues with a Firespray and a IG88 base peg, smurf poo (blue tack) works well.

Tear/cut a small piece of a plastic bag, you should have lots of them, and place it over the peg. That should work if there's not too much slop between the peg and socket.

I use pliers to *slightly* crush the peg insert on the ship so that the pegs fit snugly inside. Haven't broken anything after doing this on 10+ ships and it works great.

Cheers guys. Some good suggestions there. Much appreciated. :-)

Take a piece of masking tape and tear it to a slim piece. Wrap it around the small part of the peg until it fits snuggly in the ship. Easiest fix in the world. Masking tape is a cousin to duct tape. They are a very helpful family.

I usually take a cocktail stick or similar, dip it in some superglue (normal kind) then run a very small amount of glue around the inside surface of the peg holder on the ship. Let it dry. Et Voila! A tighter fitting peg hole. You might have to do this a couple of times. The less glue you use, the better!

I use plain old scotch tape, just tear a small piece and lay it across the top of the peg, the shove it all into the socket and trim off the excess. Works great and will really snug it up for you. Use a small piece

I also have a broken peg. Wife snapped it off during assembly prior to last night's game. Seems like a common problem. Does FFG issue replacements? For the money I don't think I ought to have to worry about fixing broken pegs.

Take standard peg -> spray a light coat of varnish and let dry -> voila, tight-fitting peg.

Paint a layer or two of clear varnish over the peg or into the hole. Let dry completely before inserting. Clear nail varnish can do the trick too, but use sparingly as it can be a tad thicker than model varnish.
