What have you done with the original packaging

By Space Cadet, in X-Wing

Just wondering if anyone has found a creative of functional use for the original boxes, or token/dial/base left over cardboard frames and plastic bags .Recycled, etc ?

Yup I know most of you will just throw it out as it is rubbish but is there a need to keep (collectable in 20 years) the extra stuff.

My boxes are proudly sitting on top of the book case gathering dust and looking c0ol as it has Starwars printed on them.

I have a cupboard full of the large/epic ship boxes.

The plastic inserts for the small ships are stored inside the above, and I use them to transport ships to tournaments etc (I only ever take what I'm planning on using on the day, so the plastic blisters are perfect for transport)

I held on to the original packaging for storage for a while, but eventually moved on to storage cases and dispensed with it.

Nothing fancy. Paper boxes usually thrown out, plastics in the basements. I keep all my models in excellent MicroHangars by SirWilli (sp?) in a tool box.

I also just use them as storage. A normal box hold the large ship/two ships that came with it and one big and one small blister, a large box holds the ship(s) that came with it and 4 small blisters and in my huge box I store the GR-75 that came with it and the core set inlays. In my core set boxes I have upgrades, pilots, tokens and templates all sorted, although I still need to integrate the new one. Thats an entity by itself for now.

I know that I waste a lot of space, but most storage sollutions either don't statisfy my want for storing the ships safely or are so expensive that I could be buying a bunch of ships instead, which I would rather do. Oh and while my girlfriend doesn't agree with it the boxes look pretty sweet on my shelf! FFGs art is just top notch.

keep the decimator, everything else goes

I use the core boxes as go-boxes for small events. Everything else is trashed.

I just recycle it all. Life's too short to hang on to rubbish

All recycling. If I kept all the boxes and packing from everything I own, I'd need another house just to store it.

You're absolutely right.

I shall put my Eldar army on ebay ASAP.

Recycled the cardboard token sheets and the main front paper insert. Kept the back insert for the movement charts. Kept the plastic blisters and store the ships in them when not in use. Kept the boxes and store them in a cupboard. Kept most of the plastic bags for use storing excess tokens, pegs etc, recycled the small bags that weren't of use.

Everything gets recycled BUT the tray bottom from large ships. That piece of plastic makes a good, cheap wet pallet for acrylic paints. Place a wet paper towel in the tray, cover with a piece of parchment paper and your good to go.

I wish I had thought to save them to do this:

But unfortunately, I didn't find out about that until after I'd tossed most of them out.

I held on to it for a while but then got so many ships that I finally threw it all away.

I carry my ships around in a cheap little plano box

it fits up to the Starviper, but you can forget about the K-wing or Punisher

therefore, I kept their packaging

I've kept all of my large ship boxes (although they've now migrated to the attic) and my huge ship boxes are storing their respective ships (with the exception of the Rebel Transport which actually fits into my case). I still have the plastic inner packaging for most of my small ships as well, although I'm slowing passing those on to my other X-Wing playing friends to use as storage solutions for their models.

Ive kept all the boxes for the Large/Huge ships and Aces packs, along with the boxes for my two core sets. They're currently all stacked up tetris style behind me between some bookshelves.

I... do not know why i've kept them. But after seeing the picture above I may try doing that for future purchases instead of figuring out if I need to buy more battlefoam

Recycling, mostly. I gave a few to a friend who is using them with his Plano cases.

Recycled all the packaging, except the Core Boxes and the Epic ships. I use the plastic for my Epics. Works great.

Recycled it all.

First I kept everything, but now with so many ships it gets too big. So now I threw the blisters away, except for the inner plastics (very handy when transporting) and I kept one of every different paper inserts and boxes. Still it is a lot to keep and maybe have to throw more away someday...

I've kept my huge ship stuff. No foam for them, and they rarely are transported. All the rest I save for mixing paint, etc. Always save model blisters for paint.

I did that a few months back and got about £1,200. Haven't looked back since.

This is a very outdated pic, but they form a structure in my double sided organizer suitcases. The rest of the blister, I chucked away
