Empire at War Ships: Will we see them in X-Wing?

By OneKelvin, in X-Wing

Hello all, have a seat.

I was reading through the Wookiepedia page on the Raider for the second time (getting one Thursday; yes!), and had my curiosity stirred when I saw that the original choice for the imperial corvette had been the Lancer-class frigate.

Long story short it was too long; 250 meters won't cut it in a dogfighting game. However; reasons for failing it aside, the Tartan cruiser from EAW is also exactly 250 meters long: and in my opinion much, much cooler.

So I started wondering; even with the host of cool ships created for the EAW games, we only have a few of them, and some prominent "new" ships featured in the game had been created by Lucasarts-affiliates beforehand. (Skipray, Starviper, Barloz, etc were all in existence before the game, even if the Starviper does looks like it was made up by Timoth-I mean-Tyber Zahn beforehand. ;) ) Will the ships created for EAW or EAWFC will make it into X-Wing, or is the licencing just too complicated?

Ships of corvette size and smaller created solely for Empire at War 1 and 2 :

Crusader-Class Corvette

TZ-15 and 86 Transports

RZ-52 Dekard Transport

Tartan-Class Patrol Cruiser

TIE/sr Starfighter (TIE Scout)

Rihkxyrk Assault Fighter

What do you think?

As someone who never played Empire at War, I think the TIE Scout is a bit ugly (Like a TIE Advanced with a box on top), but the Rihkxyrk Assault Fighter is really cool-looking. It reminds me of a speeder bike in profile: Very sleek and angular and aggressive. I'd love to buy a model of that.

While i wouldn't mind seing a couple of them, rihxjirk and TIE scout, I don't think we will see it. With the new movies, i expect to see more ships from them, and fewer from the original era, barring ones from anthology films.

TIE Scout could utilize the energy mechanic to do support work like regenerating shields and have the jam action and coordinate action and whatnot. You could also allow ships near it to measure range and Target Locks from your ship and to use the Scout's TL's as its own.

I'm all for the space stuff getting introduced the weakest part of those games was always the ground combat.

:)

The more ships the better, even if they eventually have ships that use same stat lines as other ships, and you just have alternate "skins" to chose from :)

Absolutely, I love the Rihkxyrk. It's like a P-51 Mustang and Cord L29 coupe got together and arranged for the swoop racer from KotOR to be the godfather; then both the P-51 and the L29 died in a freak air-shipping accident, and the Rihkxyrk was raised Batman-style by the swoop. Just plain frosty.

I'd love to see a Tartan Cruiser. Definitely a sweet ship.

BTW - The Rihkxyrk fighter wasn't created for Empire at War. It's another fighter from Star Wars Galaxies just like the Kihraxz and the Scyk.

The TIE scout was around waaaay before EAW fyi....I still have a few tie scouts from the old decipher ccg

So you're saying there's hope? =D

For the Rihkxyrk? Probably. Although I'd say there's about zero hope of ever pronouncing it right.

I like the ship, though I'd much rather see the Vaksai. That was the ship I flew back in the days before the plug got pulled on Galaxies. I miss that game.

I would love to see the Tie/Scout in X-wing.

The smaller Tie/Bomber sized version.

I love the look of the craft but most of all there is design space for a small based utility craft for the empire.

Yes the space cow is great but it would be nice to have something that could keep up with a flight of bombers

We all do.

We all do.

Some wookieepedia links so we could see what you're talking about would have been helpful.

Rihkxyrk Assault Fighter

Rihkxyrk is from SWG, not EaW.

Then you have horrible taste. Because it's the worst looking TIE ever.

Older than that. WEG published it before SWCCG.

And how is it any uglier than the Punisher? Or the K-wing for that matter!

And how is it any uglier than the Punisher?

Because the Punisher is TIE Bomber + more TIE Bomber.

The Scout is TIE Fighter + Cargo Container.

One of those 4 ingredients is super lame.

That got... specific .

I really think that the TIE Star Cruiser has the Scout beat.

Also, as for recon stuff in general? Recon-X and Longprobe please and thank you.

The TIE Star Cruiser is almost humorous in how blocky it looks.

Also, I found this old gem.

Probably none of them because empire at was is now part of the discarded EU and future releases will include models from the movies made by JJ Abrams because Disney is going to push their brand of Star Wars .

Expect Wave IX to be no ships from anything but Episode VII and Rebels or from any other show that has been produced under Disney's name.

The Zann Consortium for Armada would be cool.

Tie Experimental MK1, that was my squadron's ship in Emperor's Hammer fleet. Good times.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. One of the prequels failings was that nothing had the chance to become iconic, because every movie the array of vehicles had completely changed since so many (and some actualy good, especially on the Republic side) new ones were introduced with the old ones just discarded. It would probably not be wise of Disney to have that many new ships per movie again. Especially Scum is still going to draw from the EU for now.

Impossible. No sane person would ever fly a TIE Bizarro.
