Future Imperial Ships?

By NightwindKing, in Star Wars: Armada

So, I realize that there's already been discussions about what ships Wave 3 will contain and so on: this is not that question lol.

My main reason for choosing the Rebels over Imperials as my main 'team' is the variety in the ships' appearances. They all look different. Versus the Imperial capital ships, which we have 4 of so far and they all look identical to me. Certainly the Victory and Imperial SDs, but the Gladiator is pretty similar and although the Raider is a bit better, it looks like a big TIE Fighter to me.

Are there any Imperial ships that are:

-Unique looking

-From the EU (not CW era)

-Likely to be released sometime in the future?

Obviously the third one is pretty hard to pin down but I'm thinking more from a 'popular among fans and relatively well-known' standpoint. And obviously this is excluding whatever might show up in the new trilogy.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is a Dreadnought, unless FFG starts releasing transports/shuttles as 'objective ships'.

I'm guessing that the next Imperial releases will be, in fact, First Order, as I'm sure we will see a small variety of new death wedges in about two and a half months.

Maybe we'll finally see some cross-faction work in this civil war. Imperial neb-b2 osprey, for example, Assassin class corvettes for another.

The new trilogy will probably give us a wave or two.

Thats true. Im just hoping for some variety. Makes it hard for me to feel like buying Imp shios biy Id like to have both fleets eventually...

Well, the Lancer and the Strike Cruiser are both unique looking. The former looks a little like a dildo and the latter looks a little like a flying space-turd. (When I say a little, I mean a lot).

That is unique...

In X-Wing, every Imperial small ship to date has been a TIE of some sort. Presuming FFG has the same sort of design sensibility at work in Armada, expect every Imperial ship to be a murderous triangle of some variety

lol they do indeed look like that but I like the Lancer at least. I guess the Empire isnt really known for individuality...

You also have carriers.

And why should they keep the Imperial ships unique? In X-Wing they have mostly only done TIEs for the Emprie, jumping over ships like the Assault Gunboat or the Missile Boat to favour the theme of all of them being TIEs

Dreadnoughts make for a nice, Imperial (anybody, really) non-pizza shaped ship. Be cool to see the Imperials get the Katana-sub class (fewer command dials, lots of black close in broad sides), and the Rebels get a refit (more blue die, more command dials).

Besides that, there's still the Carrack Light Cruisers, Lancer Frigates, Star Galleons, Escort carriers, and Interdictor Cruisers for non-wedge and/or unique looks.

Im hoping youre being sarcastic lol O.o

"Join the Empire! Our ships are giant TRIANGLES!"

I would definitely like to see a kind of objective ship pack though with some transports and shuttles for special missions...

lancer........please pray to the EU gods........ooommma-oh!

I would love an Interdictor. All my time with the X-wing computer games made that one of my favorites. It would also be a great way to introduce a new mechanic, which they seem keen on doing with every wave of most products. The Escort Carrier was always so goofy looking that I can't see them ever releasing it, even if it is the most functionally-designed ship in the Star Wars universe save the bulk freighter...

If the Imperials got an Interdictor though, would the Rebels have to get the USS Baywatch?

And may any opponents I face in tournaments buy and use Lancers so they spend fewer points on legitimate threats to my squadronless Rebel fleets. jking mostly.

In all seriousness the only time a Lancer would be useful in Armada is against a squadron heavy fleet because they are so over specialized that they have no real anti-ship capability. A CR90 outguns them with ease in a ship to ship fight.

I wouldn't mind Carracks and Strike cruisers and Imperial Neb-B2s are one of the things which would definitely make me start an Imperial fleet.

The Raider also seems to be filling the Lancer design space. It might be redundant to have both.

I'd love an Rebel Raider. I'm also a big fan of those small sized ships like the Strike Cruiser and Lancer. But given how evil the large ships will be against the Corvette like ships...it may not make sense to put a lot of small ships out.

I think FFG will need to slowly drop ships for Armada because they will run out of things, even using the non canon EU, a lot faster than they will with fighters for X Wing.

What about the Arquitens? Sure it was CW but it was used in Rebels.

I'd think Interdictor and Arquitens are both pretty much a given. Eventually, anyway - the timing will very much depend on the new movie(s).

What about the Gozanti assualt carrier? Its about the same size as the raider / Corvette (and is in X-Wing)?

It is about half to 1/3 the size, so it may need to be classified as a fighter scale rather than ship scale.
