Painting: MC80 mon cal

By Daft Blazer, in Star Wars: Armada

I found the MC80 a bit underwhelming to be honest, it kind of looks deflated and emaciated, and the paint job doesn't help.

I decided to paint it today. I didn't have much of an idea of what I wanted, but i did want to try and emphasise the shape, if I could. I wanted a colour scheme that was darker at the back and lighter at the front.

After Home One went down at the Sullust engagement, it was discovered that the ship wasn't entirely destroyed and indeed was salvageable, and she now proudly bears the scars of that battle.

It's....Beautiful......

This looks amazing.

All the people posting painted Sullust winnings. Nnnnngggg.

I don't (think) I have a LGS (or one that plays armada anyway), so haven't been able to go to a Sullust event :( would have loved too!

Wow...jealous. That looks fantastic!

beautiful work. i was also going to be painting mine when i get one, in a similar matter and now i have something to base it off of.. thanks!

the stock paint job is just horrendous and does not do the ship any justice

The stock paint job is great, neat and detailed and in keeping with the cannon colour scheme.

If I can ask, what colors did you use?

Thanks everyone.

Yeah, no problem, the colours are: snot green, regal blue, enchanted blue, red gore, chaos black, skull white, chain mail, bleached bone and rotting flesh.

Even more questions. If I could. What kind of techniques did you use to get those effects?

Meant to ask in my other post but forgot. Thanks much.

yeah, no problem:

stage 1 and two

painted overall with a darkish green I mixed up, just slapped the paint on, then brushed on a lighter tone, to try and get a feel for it highlighting the bulbous areas:

Stage 3

some panels are highlighted in different colours, the purplish area represents a large section of hull replaced in one go, after a particularly heavy battle!

Stage 4

shadows are deepened and highlights added

I keep on adding more to the highlights and deepening the contrast until I think it's ok. This is done with dry brushing and wet paint

I then added the burn mark in the hull zone that took the killing shot from the ISD in my Sullust game.

some final stippling with a sponge and engine glow added
