So What Happened To The Rattataki?

By djshadowcat, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Like the title says would like to see someones take on them.

What do you mean?

AFAIK, nothing happened to them.

Asajj Ventress was rumored to be one at one time, but apparantly was only pretending to be one.
But other than that, there's no change to them.

Are you discussing the Rattataki or the Rakata?

From what I have gathered. The Rattataki were invented to explain Asajj Ventress, but when it was revealed that she was really just a weird-looking human, the species was silently abandoned.

Rattataki are in Swtor. They will probably appear eventually.

Rakata are a weird looking Swtor species that is long since extinct.

I thought they decided she was actually Dathamore? Like if I reccall right the Nightsisters were their own kind of species and she was one of them.

This is correct. I like to think the female Dathamirians are just Rattaki, or at least closely related, similar to how the males are just Zabraks. The planet Rattatak still exists in TCW version of her backstory, but the species is never mentioned.

other than the Zabraks, nothing in the databank says one way or another if Dathomirians were human, Rattataki, or a species all their own. For the purpose of RPGs, they can be whatever you need them to be.

I thought the Dathomirs were just near humans (think lost colony of humanity) and the Dathomiri witches were their Force users who just had a different "philosophy" of using the Force that kind of tapped a bit too much into the Dark Side. But then, I'm thinking of a non-canon novel from decades ago.

Well, the F&D fluff mentions (I think in the Zabrak section) that Dathomir is home to a Zabrak colony. What to take with that is anybody's guess.

Other than saying Ventress is from Dathomir instead of Rattatak (a planet/species that she introduced), The Clone Wars never does say that Maul isn't Zabrak (a species he introduced), just that his home planet isn't Iridonia, but Dathomir. I don't know where the human/Zabrak hybrid descendents stuff came from.

As for the Rattataki themselves, I hope they reappear. TOR has them as a playable species. I'm hoping Bounty Hunter sourcebook.

It's listed in the Legends section on Dathomirians. Not sure where it started but it seems to be the case that at least the females are human/Zabrak hybrid.
