How many movies has the Royal Guard TIE been in?

Remember when comparing the royal guard intercepter and interceptor to the TIE/FO to the special forces in regards to models, the Royal guard interceptor was never seen on screen, whereas the special forces TIE will be. I honestly suspect that every ship in the movie will end up in the game as an expansion, with new sculpts if needed, because it is far more recognizable to a larger group of people than a red interceptor with extra parts that showed up in, what was it, one comic book a decade ago?

The RGI was THE goal for MOST Imperial Pilots- and I don't need to tell you that a LOT of people played SWG.

Absolutely nothing compared to the number of people that will see these movies. Like literally less than 1%.

So, by that logic, we should not have gotten a t-70 model x-wing.

I think you read that wrong. Ship in movie = new model (TIE/FO, T-70) Ship in EU = repaint (RG Interceptor).

No, DarthEnderX is saying that the TIE/FO is a modification of the regular TIE, and should be a repaint, as the Royal Guard TIE is a modification of TIE interceptor and it only revieved a repaint.

I was saying that by similar logic, the T-70 should be a repaint, as it is just a modified x-wing. At least if we are considering the TIE/FO not worthy of a new model.

Just imagine how many YT-1300 variants you would have.

I think getting a new model means that the ship is fundamentally different at heart.

RGI is an Interceptor. A highly upgraded Interceptor but still an upgraded factory Interceptor

I think they are trying to put an exclamation point on the idea that the new TIEs look similar, but on the inside differ enough from regular TIEs as to be another ship entirely.

TIE/FOs aren't built as TIE/LNs and then upgraded, they come out of the factory with shields, better guns etc. The "Royal Guard Special" was always a modification to a regular ship, never a full production model.

So, TLDR factory fresh = new model, souped up/upgraded = pilot card if upgrades are integral to driver, modification/title if integral to ship.

And I say that not a single one of these movie-only fans would recognize the difference between the old TIE Fighter painted in New Order colors, and the new TIE/fo.

You actually have to look at it in zoomed in high definition images to be able to tell the difference between the two.

But honestly, I don't mind that these ships got new models. I mind that they're completely different ship types with separate pilot cards instead of Title cards.

I would have much preferred they been Title cards, and still got unique models, but as far as the rules were concerned, the either the old model or the new one was perfectly acceptable for use, and the pilots were all usable.

Oh, man a 3-point title for a TIE/LN to turn it into an FO? Backstabber? Done. Night Beast? Done. Howlrunner? Yes, please. I normally buy hull upgrades for Howl, and a MK II engine for the Beast. You're saying I should be able to get a shield, S-Loops, and green 2 turns for that price? Yowza.

Certainly not. There's nothing quite like getting an early model of a T-70 X-Wing. The thing is absolutely beautiful.

What the? If they're the ships from the movie, why don't they just call them TIE/fo and put the shield and upgrades on them like the T-70? Aren't they the ships from the new movie? I don't remember any non-First Order TIEs in TFA... weird

Because despite appearances it's a different ship.

Like the T-70 it represents a "modern", i.e. technologically advanced ship, even if it looks even more similar to its predecessor than the T-70 does.

Much like the T-70 one of the key differentiators is the dial - it 'feels' different to fly with better and different (T-Roll/S-Loop) maneuvers.

Or, to put it another way...

What if the TIE interceptor - the OT "new and improved" TIE fighter was represented in X-Wing by a different miniature and a Title card but not a different dial?

Would it 'feel' different? I'd argue that the extra green (particularly the green '2' turns) and the k-turns make it a very different and 'improved' fighter, not just the extra attack die and boost.

Regardless of how much you say the TIE/fo is a different ship, it just...plain...isn't. It's a newer model of the same old TIE Fighter. The TIE Interceptor isn't a TIE Fighter. It actually IS a different ship.

The point is, it's a different ship in the game because FFG chose to make it a different ship. But they didn't have to. And they shouldn't have. Because it didn't deserve to be. Because it WASN'T a different ship.
