Special Forces TIE is almost certainly coming

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

The Black Series Special Forces TIE is out now and it is huge. I don't have one yet, but look at this video.

It's significantly different looking. It has room for a second person (crew) and might have room for a turret. Also it has what looks like double the gun tubes in the front.

This thing looks wild. From a distance it looks like a regular TIE Fighter but in detail it is so much more.

Wow, that's awesome! It looks like it can possibly fit two crew.

I expect we'll get a TIE with an auxiliary rear arc.

Lots of other ships in the game that could take a Crew slot based on their in-universe configuration don't (Y-wing, Bomber, etc).

Looks like a dorsal turrent and a ventral mounted secondary cannon weapon.

First imperial turret or aux arc?

Imperials already have an auxiliary arc.

Holy crud! How big is that thing? It looks like a small child could ride in it!

I'm betting on an Ion weapon. The gun barrels look different enough that it makes sense to me. And the arcs should be the same as on the Firespray.

That's totally out of scale!

First imperial turret or aux arc?

Turret doesn't make sense given that it's mounted in the middle of two giant solar panels. It wouldn't have arc to the left or right.

This is the TFA fighter i'm really looking forward to i hope it's not a dud like the fo.

The FO isn't a dud... Just because you have no idea how to use something does not make that thing a dud. Just makes you incompetent.

Not everyship is going to be equally viable for each player.

Hell yeah!

I expect this ship to be released soon after Wave 8. It could very well be something FFG is keeping secret along with any unseen/unleaked ships from TFA. Maybe a secret Christmas release? (just hoping)

dud? did I miss something?

How about a forward and rear 30deg arc instead of the normal 45? Fits with solar panels in the way and would keep the ship a cheaper TIE from a points perspective. Could also make for an incredibly fun ship to master and fly because of the finer positioning required.

There's nothing difficult about using the fo it's not a defender, it just serves no real purpose the tie ln is superior as a jouster and blocker and the interceptor is better if i want an arc jouster as it has superior firepower.

Maths clearly indicates it's worse than the original tie, and the aces are too expensive in my opinion as you can buy a tie advanced for the price of a kitted out fo.

Z-95's have shown us how poorly 4 hit point ships perform when expensive.

I don't rate the fo at all.

Maybe true but an fo can do something an advanced can't, sengir loop. Might not be worth it in a spread sheet but I know aggressor pilots who would argue of the worth of that one maneuver.

But the advanced can take a AC k turn and still get two hits where the fo will lack any ability to modify dice.

The tie fighter, interceptors and advanced can fill any roll the fo does, it over laps those ships but doesn't do better than them.

It's too expensive to swarm generics, it lacks the punch of a squint and can't match the advanced generics for survivability and the named advanced are in my opinion superior to the similar priced aces.

That's without even mentioning the largely useless TL action, even the aces that benefit from a TL leave themselves wide open to do so three naked green dice won't keep a four hull ship alive long.

And once the TAP comes along with its ability to mount AT what role will the fo fill?

I've played with the F/Os.They are fun, like TIEs. That's the only hurdle they need to clear to not be a dud in a game, imo. Not everything is worlds.

Wow, that's awesome! It looks like it can possibly fit two crew.

If they're extremely intimate, maybe. Just one crew and the pilot. This isn't exactly a Rick/Minmei situation.

Those are some funny lookin' Ion Cannon shots.

Most assuredly not. The only thing out of scale there is that dumpy old AT-AT toy.

I suppose nobody flies and beefs up N'dru.

Anyway I'm hoping the cog will have either an auxiliary arc or the ability to mount a cannon the empire could use a small based turret ship.

I don't think that's quite what TasteTheRainbow was saying...

First Imperial turret - (as in upgrade, not PWT c.f. Y-Wing, HWK) OR an AUX arc (with no implication that it would be the first AUX arc for the Imperials)

"significantly different" here requiring a "not" prefix.

If it comes, expect an Imperial Aces-style thing at best.

No, it'll have its own model. The TIE/FO proved that.

When sadly the RGI didn't...
