Deployment Tactics for 3 Victories (With squadrons)

By Lord Vithiss, in Star Wars: Armada

I was thinking of taking 3 victories to my sullust event on Sunday and I have 6 tie fighters squads in my list . What would be the the best set up? I was thinking of 2 forward victories and my flagship acting as a reactionary counter if they try to flank with squads of ties following behind the lead victories. I would Deploy as close to the corner as I can and place as many asteroids to block the other side.

List:

3x vsd 1 (motti as commander)

5x tie fighters

1x Howlrunner

299

Objectives: Minefields, Advance Gunnery, Contested outpost.

What strategies do you guys have? Or what strategies have you come across?

No upgrades?

TIE fighters are Upgrades to a VVV Fleet :D

You need to keep the Victories together and use them as a "road block" per se. Especially with them all being VIC 1s, I understand needing the points. I don't think I would ever drop them to speed one, it will be your only hope to even get into position to do some "blocking."

Motti SHOULD give you the staying power, as I lost one or both of my Vic 2s tonight in the 5th or 6th rounds, but just one damage!!!

At 299, you will probably not be getting 2nd player, but you have the best objectives for this squad. Contested Outpost, this is probably the only situation where speed one is okay. Sit on that thing and make the other fleet come to you.

Minefields, see my post here in the main forum (sorry no linky) about how to best set the board up. Again, I would put the minefield to a "flank" and set up your road block and let the enemy fleet come to you.

Good luck!

Wow. This was almost exactly the list I took and won with.

Only changes:

Vic 1, (Motti, Dominator)

Vic 1, Enhanced Arms

Vic 1, Enhanced Arms

2x Tie Fighters.

Same objectives

That put me at 291 points which one me initiative in every game. I cannot stress how crucial this was.

I also deployed almost exactly as you showed in your illustration, or at least, in such a way that by the time I was rolling out into position I had assumed that formation. This list, including objectives and deployment, got me 1st place in today's tournie. Keeping a Vic "behind" to dissuade any fast ships (demolisher + engine tech) from rolling into your 6, was crucial.

Also, I cannot tell you how awesome Dominator is, because of the flexibility it gives you for anti-squadron warfare. Even if your opponent merely suspects that you're willing to trade shields for shots on his bombers, it gives you a huge advantage. Combined with concentrate firepower it gives you a lot more options for shooting down enemy squadrons than you would otherwise have. Throw in a couple tie fighters and I had everything I needed to handle small-medium size squadron problem. But you have to be careful with it, and really only attack enemy squadrons that truly threaten you (ie, Bombers).

I ended up swaping howlrunner and a tie fighter for 2 gunnery teams on the other 2 victory star destroyers. I ended up winning my Massing at sullust event and I would have lost my most important game if it wasn't for Motti! I only lost a Victory star destroyer in my last game ( the other was at 1/10 hull remaining).
