Ship callsigns!

By Muelmuel, in Star Wars: Armada

just for fun, I think every ship before wave 3 hits currently can be nicknamed something that will stick and be commonly used in our games. Personally i would be using these to call my (and opponents') ships during our sessions. What do you all think? ^_^

Corvette:

Hammerheads

butt biters

Nebulon:

Swordfish(because it is long and has a dangerous front end ;) )

Snipers

MC30c:

Shrimps(most likely this will stick)

Porpoises(they look more like belugas though)

Assault:

(this one is already the example of having callsigns nicknames that actually stuck :) )

Whales

Guppies

Potatoes

MC80:

Giant Squids(or just squids)

Cucumbers

Raider:

Spiders(cause it nabs flies squadrons in its instigator web)

Butt biters

Gladiator:

Manta

Shark(cause it behaves like one in battle, still like manta more)

Victory:

tanks

heavies

(I want nicer ones for this one though)

Imperial:

Megalodon

The problem with Callsigns is you need to think of the perspective of where they are coming from.

If they are Friendly Callsigns, then you should assign to them something Familiar, but Different enough that someone who doesn't speak the language cannot immediately link the two. The point of a Radio callsign is to be somewhat unknown to the Enemy, but known to you. Plus, the callsign should be an easier, preferably (but not always) two-syllable word. Then, they have to be different enough to each other to not cause confusion.

If, for example, we called the Gladiator the Manta, the Imperial would be shortened to the Mega, and both starting with the same "mmm" sound, one could be confused for the other if the transmission was not clear.

If they are Enemy Callsigns, then they need to be Derisive. At the very least, Tongue in Cheek about what's good Or Bad about them. Hence why Guppy works for the Assault Frigate. That plays up on both its "Ugly" shape, and trivialises its Damage potential, but naming it something innocuous...

Good first thoughts, but I think there needs to be an evolution of thought on the subject. perhaps, as well, I'm too rooted in my Military Background to see something clear and fun. ::shrug::

I thought this was going to be what we called our ships. . .

Ahahaha no that's not what I'm on about. Ok maybe i should not use the term callsigns. I just meant nicknames for ships, to be used as frequently as the original name, whether my own or opponents' pieces :)

I am calling the MC30's Barracuda's or Mantis Shrimp
