Sullust Weekend - Hothgary - Rebel 300

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Well, it snowed here in Calgary last night... So we're back to being Hoth-gary indeed!

Tomorrow at the Sentry Box is the Massing at Sullust, and I'm looking at adding even MORE Fighters...

AFMKII-B
- Garm Bel Iblis

- Advanced Projectors

(103)

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate

- Yavaris

(62)

Nebulon-B Support Refit

- Salvation

(58)

B-Wing Squadron

(14)

B-Wing Squadron

(14)

B-Wing Squadron

(14)

Y-Wing Squadron
(10)

Y-Wing Squadron
(10)

X-Wing Squadron
(13)

298 points...

Tentative Objectives are:

Precision Strike

Hyperspace Assault

Minefields

I like going Squadron Heavy, and Upgrade Light. This shaved off two upgrades to add the 3rd B-Wing Squadron...

Vs Imperials:

The Bombers do their damndest to lie in wait on an obstacle, while Yavaris and Salvation pott their shots long range... The Main Strike is Bombers jumping on the front of a VSD or GSD to drop their shields, and maybe burn some defense, then the Ships do the final blow... AFMK-II is slow-circling to add weight of fire, OR, Flanking the other side.

Vs Rebels:

Depending on fighter Cover, the Bombers become either Minefields or defensive emplacements. The X-Wing babysits one group and Yavaris helps it do the damage. If the enemy is Corvettes or Whales, then they become Minefields - Moving to be placed where they can engage, and force the Enemy to engage me - giving me, hopefully, a weight of fire advantage, before pulling off the engatement.

Good looking list Dras, do you know what kind of turn out their expecting at the sentry Box? Might see you there... :)

depends on work.if not Good Hunting my friend and bring home a" Home One" or the Rogue pack!!!

Not sure. We had 6 last time, I'd expect 1 or 2 more on top of that, but Revolution is now running at the same time as well, and they've got 1 or 2 of the Northern players pulled to them... And two of the people I knew were coming from Edmonton are now not, so....

I wouldn't expect too much to be honest... Frankly, I'm looking forward to it :D

Hmmm...might have to use a sick day.....never played in an Armada tourney before....might be time to take the plunge

If you're going to, this'll be the One :)

Nice list, similar to my own except i'm crit hunting with luke and a corvette-b with dodonna instead of the additional Neb.

Wanna love the Neb but those side arcs..

I agree, its taken me a while to warm up to them based on positioning... It really is trying to funnel the enemy into a Killbox.

The big side arcs get hammered far too often, but yes they certainly can be worth their points.

at range 3 they cant be matched point for point, but staying at range three when your guns point forward is not so easy!

12 Players.

Got a 5th Place. (And the tournament rules were changed on me. Rather than Top 5 getting a prize, the 'extra' prize went to *last* place to capitulate to some of the unfamiliar faces. At one stage, they were saying they'd drop if they went 0-10 unless there was a last place prize).

Had 2 Yavaris Activated Y-Wings rolled anything more than Blank, Blank, Blank, Blank on Black Dice, I would have readily picked up Fourth, or even Third.

-sighs- sorry mate, I tried to get there. There was a second massing on the same day in Edmonton that I was informed about just prior to the Saturday event. I said 'made plans for Calgary' got out on the open road after my SO said 'probably shouldn't go... got on the most direct and least busy road that leads to the QE2 from Onoway and picked up a stone, a nail, and a rim that fused to the wheel. Missed both Sunday events and that WW2 Silkscreening exhibit going on down there that I had made plans to take time to see.

Sorry to hear about the 5th place finish, especially when it was changed like that. Players dropping? I'm a little surprised about that. I didn't hear of anything happening at the Red Claw one, and our tournament cut short but there wasn't a single complaint about that. Everyone got a prize, but the entrance was three times the norm. Still, I'm surprised: the idea of a last place prize might be clever and rather appealing, but changing it like that is most certainly not.

I heard there was a lot of Imperial players in both events down there, and almost everything was rebels up here... Red Deer I could see Rebels, but here? I was just baffled. Did they run for the full 4 rounds? How was the playerbase for rules knowledge?

Absolutely sucks when stuff like that takes you out of it... Especially as it usually leaves you reeling for days.

The Guys I'd never played against before were all pretty experienced - and *most* of them already had Sullust stuff, so they might have been in Edmonton on Saturday...

That's what really bugged me, I guess. I come from a completely different attitude and tournament dynamic. The competition is secondary to the Good Time. We, or at least, most of the people I played with back home in Australia, always assigned "Competition before all" as an American attitude, but I guess that applies here too.

We were pretty split 50/50 for our Reb/Imperial. As it was, I faced two Rebels and an Imperial with my own Rebels...

I got off lucky, I just had to wait around for 12 hours then got an 'I told you so' for the rest of the day. Well, and today. We'll see.

Still, I'm sorry to hear about the 5th place finish and odd player sorts. That said, I know what you mean, the guy who took the ISD had won before as well: an MC30 I want to say. I bear him no ill will as the prize allotment was... different. Was there something in Red Deer that flew under the radar, or a Friday event? There had to be something I just wasn't seeing as there were prior winners on Saturday. But it could have even been Edmonnton, as I didn't know about the Red Claw thing until Saturday either.

I don't fault the guy, the whole thing was run well and I enjoyed it, but it does sorta smart, and he was in it for a third the next day. I'm just a little sore that I didn't make it after the tournament got cut a touch short, so I've still yet to see any big ship in action. I mean, I did go hoping to meet some new people, play a few games, and hopefully not end up in last place, but thanks to the timing, our third round just wasn't possible (Blame Pokemon, they are evil). I guess I am a little irritated at distribution for not giving us any lists of who is hosting what, and letting them get the word out 2-3 days ahead of the events, at best.

What you''re talking about is almost exactly what I feared would happen, and I expected to happen (without getting too political, the 'in it to win it' attitude is a transplanted Americanism that's gained a lot of ground here in the past 15 years. I've seen the Australian scene before, and some of the European tournament scenes. They are markedly different. Alberta has always been closely tied to the western U.S., but the attitude has changed and still continues to pivot in that direction). I'll say one thing, the prize format that was held may have solved a lot of the issues here and went a long way into helping things out. Everyone wins, the prize draw for the ships was modified based on your victories, but it didn't go strictly to the top player, so I harbour no ill will against anyone. It might not have been sanctioned, but as a pre-release event rather than just a premier tournament, it was a stroke of brilliance.

50/50 split, there had to be some preknowledge somewhere along the lines if things change that quickly among experienced players (who usually were practising with a set list. I know I played at least 30 practice games with mine, so I handled it pretty well if I do say so myself). It just seems weird.
