TIE/x1 flying backwards (and other strange flaws)

By nekomatafuyu, in X-Wing

So, I was just putting together my latest TIE/x1 today, and found that it would only go onto the base flying backwards (according to the arrow on the base). After comparing it to my other x1s, I've found that the socket on the underside of the mini has been glued in backwards.

My 2 questions for everyone:

- Does anyone have any recommended fix for the problem? It seems a little silly to be taking to FFG. (I could always put the card insert in back to front, but i just know that would end up bugging me.) I'm going to guess trying to pop the socket off and regluing it, but it comes down to whether or not I can do so without damaging the mini itself.

- Has anyone else had any weird flaws in their minis that just left them more bewildered and amused than upset?

In the short term though, this TIE is going to be flying backwards into battle just for the humour and WTF factor ;)

Easiest "fix" for it is to just put the cardboard base on backwards to match the ship.

Try wiggling the socket gently back and forth to see if you can get the glue to break. Then its a simple fix.

If the socket breaks off in the ship, you'll have to drill a small hole in both sides and glue a pin in to hold it together. I've had to fix a few of my ships that way. Its a little more complicated than if the socket comes out in one piece, but not hard at all.

But.... But.... Darth Vader can fly backwards!

Yeah, clearly your ship has been watching too much Rebels.

If it were me, I'd shrug and put the cardboard in the other direction. Otherwise, yeah, just go gentle on trying to pry it out of the model, then glue back into place.

put it on 1 or 3 pegs instead of 2? That should put the base correctly again.

It doesn't matter how many pegs you use. If the connector on the ship is the wrong way, it will always be backward.

Just flip the bloody cardboard!

This... I had a peg that was slightly at an angle when it was originally glued in. I ended up breaking the glue and it came right out, when I was trying to reposition it. It was easy enough to re-glue, level this time.

And I thought you have found out a trick to fly a Tie advanced backwards

I had a peg break with the numb inside the hole in the other peg and superglued them back together so those two pegs are one piece now. If you had that happen to one of your pegs, you could file those ends flat, then glue them together with one peg rotated 180 degrees. Now one end of the peg is facing the right way to go on the base, and the other end is backward and can accommodate Vader's backwards peg.

Yeah, one of my ships -- a TIE Bomber -- has this problem too. I call him "Wrong Way Roger." Just put the cardboard on reversed.

Wave 7 has had an issue with the female connectors on the ship shearing off. FFG are replacing those (which realistically only need a little glue), so there is no reason why they wouldn't replace an X1 with a backwards connector.

But it reminds me of the B-wings (at least one print run) where the included pegs were faulty. The male connector at the top and female connector at the bottom were offset by 45 degrees meaning that the B-wings pointed out in strange angles.

One of my scum Z95s is about 5-10 degrees off center. It really bugs me, but I've yet to try to fix it.

Sounds like this is the problem. I would double check to see if this is the case, if so contact FFG's customer service.

That is the short term solution, but to be honest I would say that is cause enough to contact FFG customer service and see if they will give you a replacement model. Sure the bases are reversible so the cardboard tile should be able to flip and the model will function of all the game play mechanics properly. If you are okay with that then sure go ahead but since it is a production flaw you can call customer service for a replacement part which I recommend.

Paint a little reversing light on the back?

Paint a little reversing light on the back?

And have it make a beeping noise.

One of my TIE Bombers had this problem. I contacted FFG about it, more to let them know that I had encountered such a problem than seeking a remedy for myself. They happily sent me a new TIE Bomber to replace it.

I always thought it was the one pilot that pissed of Vader and Vader was messing with him by reversing all the controls.

Well the x1 IS still a prototype

They'll iron the kinks out in the final version

If you can't overcome your OCD, just palm the ship in your hand for 10 minutes to warm it up then pop out the slot with needlenose pliers (gently) then glue it the 'correct' way.

by the way...you can do this (in reverse) to mess with your friends next April Fool's day.
