Is Home One not bit to small?

By Kiwi Rat, in Star Wars: Armada

Because its not True scaling. Its Representative Scaling.

In Representation, its supposed to look smaller than an Imperial.

That Way, the Imperial, blantantly the most Iconic of the large ships, is Impressive by Comparison.

Actual references to scales are kind of irrelevant, as FFG has stated in their own design brief by stating 'representative'.

But that is exactly the thing the ISD and MC80 are in thrue scale versus each other, so if we did use Representative Scaling. then who would care that the MC80 is just as long as the ISD, the ISD would still be wider and generaly bigger than the MC80, but the MC80 would feel a bit more impressive, instead of its rather pityfull size.

::shrug:: Its your opinion to have.

Anyway, still bigger then anything else the Rebels have. I think it looks great.

Likewise, and its one of the reasons i picked it instead of the ISD as my prize. Really fits in coherently with the Rebel fleet, and it plays amazingly.

I think it looks too small for its base too. It does feel generally undersized compared to the ISD, it just doesn't feel right :(

I would certainly consider buying a custom, bigger fatter burlier model.

Its fine

It plays amazing from what I saw

It looks emaciated, and deflated.

Painting mine tonight ;)

Seems fine to me... sure it could be bigger on the table, but honestly, I couldn't care less.

It's about the gameplay for me.

DaftBlazer - On a one man crusade to convince the world of how terrible the MC80 is... ;)

IMHO the size is right (vs cannon and films etc) a 3km Home One is silly.

I also love the model, the painting is detailed, neat and the wash work was spot on.

But it's all subjective!

the only silly thing about the MC-80 is that it appears to have some five of what appear to be periscopes

...in space

(they're probably command bridges and all, but **** if it couldn't pass off as an over-engineered submarine)

still, that only makes me love it all the more. Whether the K-wing, Starviper, Afmk2, and now the MC-80; I'm a connoisseur of the ludicrous and absurd ships in X-wing ^_^

Honestly after seeing it in person, I had the exact opposite opinion. Both ships are just beautiful to behold. While the home one might not have the sheer mass of the ISD it is in no way less grand.

No Internet picture do these ships justice. They are huge, and astonishingly gorgeous models. Admittedly it's not as big as the Imperial, but it is still a lot larger then I thought it would be when seen in person.

The problem with trying to figure out the size of ships during busy action scenes is that the poor guys behind the special effects were more focused on making the shot look good not the right scale.

As an example, this corellian corvette at the bottom left:

So... if you want to scale the MC80 you should use a more simple shot, like this one:

Ahh, I see this pop up again :)
The Home One was intended to be about 3 kilometers long period.
I refer you to my thread https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/140771-ship-size/
Basically i also was very disturbed by ffgs guess at the length of the ship but through research discovered the main culprits.

West end games produced a star wars rpg in which they had to make up due to lack of information from lucas stats for various craft in the movies they basically either through error or some other foul, cut the home ones length in half and unfortunately just not enough people have ever cared to really change the issue.

In contrast they did the same think with the SSD, stating that it was only a length of 8000 meters. That number was wrong and because of the outcry of fans because the ship is so beloved it is now its correct length in most cannon sources.

So thats the main problem not enough people care about this one 'large imo' inconsistency. Its made all the more tragic because Home one at its true scale as a sort of command/carrier ship would have made a good super ship down the line to face imperial variants of their star destroyer plus lines.

As to those who think that scale would be incpatible or rather a better representation of home one to the current star destroyer is not possible i say thats total bs. The star destroyer is twice the size of a vic and yet only roughly 2 inches larger in game. And it looks good!! And so if we continue along that scalling we get this

So yes Kiwi the model is a bit small! but look on the bright side at least there is finally a model of home one out there!!! and it is quite impressively detailed. :)
also although it was all covered in my original topic and I really dont think it needs to be gone over again in detail I will bring up a few points worth mentioning. First off in my research I could not find ANY statement from the workers on the original film in which the home one appeared as to the length of the Home one, I would like to mention however that at that time ship lengths and especially rebel ships were not often planned out in detail . However there were TWO models made for the rebel mon cal cap ships on one of those was the Home One, based on that model NOT screen perspective extrapolation analysis which i agree Mel is quite futile is how it has come to the conclusion of scale. basically you cant have it both ways. unless tardis.
Kiwi i discovered myself just how much some people dont want things to really be in dispute as far as lore goes, so much so that a piece of false information that has been ingrained will be defended against with really no credible sources to accredit. and the sad thing is the longer people believe this to be true the harder it will be for it ever to be corrected.
But in the end it doesnt matter too much!!! XD if it matters as much to you as I just make a new model :)

The problem with trying to figure out the size of ships during busy action scenes is that the poor guys behind the special effects were more focused on making the shot look good not the right scale.

The ship on the right is the Executor so the corvette is the right size. What we're looking at here is a jumbo Neb, which could be a scaling error.

Then again there's this:

And this:

(look at the size of the people)

Super Nebulon-B class?

The tricky thing is since these ships don't actually exist it could be difficult to determine what's a scaling error and what's a unique ship class with a similar design pattern.

Honestly, I think I am disappointed in it not having more girth... But I'm ok with the length. I don't expect the Rebels to ever have a ship as big as the Imperials.

and I thought we dodged all the phallic jokes with the raider replacing the lancer

oh fickle, you sweet summer child...

Seriously, you should have known what was coming
