Has anyone had any experience with the Gencon Special list against a squadron heavy list? I would think you would only need to worry about the VSD since the gladiators could just run away.
Gencon Special list vs Squadrons
Gladiators that are Running Away = Gladiators that re not in Range to Shoot my Ships.
You don't chase Gladiators. You make them come through the Wall of Bomber Squadrons, then kick them in the teeth with a Ship attack to finish them off.
I played a game against it last night, my list had 3 A-Wings, 2 Y Wings, and 1 Luke Wing. I can't say exactly what to do to avoid them, if you get in close (you have to) and they use the squadron command there is only so much you can do. But, if you never fly directly into them, ergo make them use the squadron command, then they aren't using Engineering, or Navigate, or Concentrate Fire. Just a thought.
Edit: As was kind of mentioned above, if you "rotate" your forward roster, have one come in for a pass, then leave, then bring up a different one - it could increase your chances. My best chances against the GenCon special are when I can isolate one or two Gladiators and just fight/kill those before I run away from the cavalry.
Edited by BoardyMy squad heavy Rebs toy with Gencon Special. Its not a threat.
If you kite the Imperials with faster ships (rebels) with your squadrons laying in wait (hopefully for demolisher) whatever he tries to commit with dies befor his ordinance is useful.
The Victory isnt even a factor. ACM's are not a factor.
Gencon special is 298 and slow. Outbid it, play your own missions, go second. When you go second the burden of attackis on Gencon Special. Second player auto-wins if no points are scored by either player.
Missions I use. Precision, superior Positions, Ambush. Deploy one ship in a safespot and make him deploy entirely by placing your Squadrons. Do not go head to head. Kite him. Ignore the flagship as it should never properly engage.
Your margin of victory will suck, but you win. In small tournaments, thats all that matters. In larger tournaments, take your small victory and hope for better margin later. Larger tournaments, getting lucky with your opponents is always a factor. Accept it. Take your smallish victory and run with it....its better than getting blasted apart by missles.
Edited by DeadshaneAnd yet, I fly the list and always won with it, no matter what the opposition. It all depends on the user. Max speed Glads are going to fly through any squadron screen and blast the enemy capital ships to bits.
This is all however academic, as the new wave has put the nail in the coffin for this list. The days of Glad domination are over. I am dusting off my squadrons...
I dunno how speed 3 glads close with rebel ships moving speed 2-4 on a 6 x 3 table. Thats either magic on your part or a mistake on your opponents'.
Edited by DeadshaneI don't know what "Squadron heavy" means
but two B-wings + Yavaris will one-round a Glad per activation

there's a negative space there once occupied by a GSD trying to box Yavaris in
the GSD above her gets eviscerated next turn, and then yavaris proceeds to spend the rest of the game running away
during all that, the B-wings managed to get tangled in skreed's front arc, but the luck bastard evades death for the third time on one hull ![]()
