2 newbie questions

By mwevre, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I have just the Force Awakens Core set. If we aren't squad building or playing the tutorial, which pilots do we use to have an even match?

If we are squad building just to the 36 points, what happens if we both "secretly" choose the same upgrade card? Do you just reference it?

For an even match just have both sides use the same number of points and you should be ok. So if both sides build a 36 point list you should have a fairly balanced game.

Technically the Imperial player gets first choice of upgrades, but I'd say both can use and just put the card off to the side for reference.

Sounds good. That's what I figured. In the original Core set it explicity said "use these pilots if you're not doing squad building" or "if you're doing squad building, build to 34 (or whatever) points". Thanks for responding!

Rule one, Have Fun.

Rule two, Casual play is whatever you and your opponent agree to.

Rule three, Competitive play is where you have to adhere to all the "minor" rules. Example having all cards for your squad.

I thought Rule No. 1 was "Don't be a ****."

If you follow that version of Rule 1, the other Rule One tends to follow right along after.

As you're just starting don't be afraid to proxy cards you don't own, there are plenty of sites and squad builders you can use for reference like:

As long as you know what a card does there's no reason not to try it.

You only need to own the cards if your playing in a tournament.

Clearly you're mistaken my friend. That's definitely Rule 2 you're referring to.

I thought rule 1 was not to talk about fight club.

That's the first rule of fight club.

I prefer Rule 1 on the Evil Overlord List

I prefer Rule 1 on the Evil Overlord List

On that list I prefer

"I will not turn into a snake. it never helps"

Can't remember what number that one is though. Thirty-something i think.

Think its 34, though rule 34 is obviously something else for the Internet at large...

And always remember Rule 4 (which is to always remember Rule 1)

So, let me get this straight... now we've got to remember Rules 1 AND 4.

I thought Rule No. 1 was "Don't be a ****."

that's rule #1 for life, generally, not X-Wing, specifically ;)

I thought rule 1 was, "Thou shalt have no other games before X-wing." Could have sworn I saw that on FFG's site somewhere.
