When you started, what was the worst list you ever tried to play with

By Shenannigan, in X-Wing

This isn't a create a bad list thread, but an admittance that everyone flys lists that are just downright poor even for casual play.

So for me, I just started, and played in Imdaar alpha.

I flew:

Vader cluster rockets engine upgrade

Krassis with ion cannon

2x academy ties.

It just couldn't ever do enough damage.

In early waves, I felt that way about most of my Imperial lists. I did not enjoy flying swarms, and Interceptors died far too quickly. Vader was fun to fly... but also did not do enough damage. Those were dark times, before the X1 and Autothrusters fixes.

A list built around multiple ion turrets back when I mistakenly thought ion caused you to lose your action.

Corran fcs marksmanship r2d2

Biggs

Ibtisam Advanced sensors something.

I'm flying Rookie Xs with Stealth Devices on vassal tonight...because reasons ;)

When I started I went straight to the forums so I never really had a terrible list...also I am incredibly meticulous about my force in any strategy game I play, so list building has always been one of my stronger suits.

Chewie, Kyle and a gold squadron pilot.

Kyle has ion cannon, Recspec and the moldy crow title, gold squad had ion cannon, Chewie had something.

Took that to my first regional.

Got curb stomped in the first match by 4 naked sigma squadron phantoms.

While not exactly meta-defining, that's certainly a list I'd consider flying now in a casual game. :)

My first regional (2013) I had only played the game for about 2 weeks prior to attending. I ran Lando w/ Nien, Dutch w/ Proton Torp + R5-K6, and Garven. I don't really know how I came in top 8. That list is horrible.

I love the look of the TIE Advanced, so I bought four of them back when they came out.

... They looked great on the table.

In an early Vassal tournament (although not the earliest), I played Kath + Marksmanship + Gunner and two Saber Squadron Pilots with PTL and Stealth Device.

It's not that it's a bad list, exactly--I can still sort of reconstruct the logic that led me there--but it was a disaster on the table.

In the 2013 Regionals (which were much more like the store championships now) I took 4 rookies kitted out with: R5-D8, R2-D2, R2-F2, R5-K6 and a proton torpedo. I felt as though it had staying power and the ability to do enough damage. Even looking at it now, only R5-D8 seems like an absolute waste of points. Anyways, I finished with a 2-2 record playing against 3 different HSF lists and one Vader, Fel, and Phennir build. Out of the 11 people who attended, I got sixth, and they made a cut to top 4. Which was fine, I walked away with some sweet focus tokens and a better understanding of the difference between playing with some buddies and playing against the meta.

2x Onyx with Ion Cannons

2x Obsidian with Targetting Computer

I really liked the Defender, I didn't know what to do with 4 points, and I wanted everyone to be the same PS

Named TIE's/shield upgrades.

Fat Xwings.

I have lots of printouts from voidstate's squadron builder at home.

I look at some of the older (18+ month) old ones, and think "my God, what was I thinking?!"

When I started playing this game, I only had the imperial half of a core set that I split with my brother. My first actual buy was a firespray. So for my first 6 months or so of playing, my list theme was "pack on as many upgrades as you can to try to get up to 100 points". So, HLC Boba, Stealth Mauler, Stealth Nightbeast.

Anything with Howlrunner in it. She dies way too fast for me and is nothing but a waste of points. I haven't put her on the table since the first month or two of playing the game.

The new TIE/FO might change this. I've been playing with a list that includes Howlrunner (with PTL), Omega leader (with PTL) and Epsilon Leader. Double action, no stress, TIEs can be a real bear to take down.

I was theory crafting before really learning the cards, and came up with this list, I thought autoblaster was HLC. It isnt, barrel rolling means throwing unmodified dice, which miss alot lol. My opponent was flying some bwings and a hawk. One crushing defeat later I went back to the drawing board.

B-Wing: Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Autoblaster (5)

Advanced Sensors (3)

Y-Wing: Gold Squadron Pilot (18)

Ion Cannon Turret (5)

X-Wing: Rookie Pilot (21)

· R2-D2 (4)

A-Wing: Green Squadron Pilot (19)

Outmanuever (3)

I still think I'd rather fly them with Col. Vessery.

I use the print option to save them as pdf's on my computer and as a result I now have a folder full of weird and wonderful lists.

And putting them in date order doesn't really seem to improve their standard.

I had the game for about 2 months and entered a store tourney. Cracken, Blount and 4 Bandits with all the ordnance they could carry. Two out of the three games I played I got tabled. Forgot Cracken's ability, bumped my ships constantly, forgot actions when I didn't bump. Pretty much of a fiasco from the start.

While losing wasn't much fun, I did have fun and learned a lot. Being out flown is one thing. Shooting yourself in the foot was quite another.

Nice thread

Either 4 Saber Interceptors or something with Biggs (Biggs was always included, thought he was overpowered :D ).

My rounds just consisted of jousting and k-turns ;)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22) x 3

Jan Ors (30)
HWK-290 (25), Ion Cannon Turret (5)

There was something else on Jan but I can't remember what it was.

I took Corran-FCS-Marksmanship-R2-D2, Biggs-R2-F2, 2x Bandit Squadron pilots to my first regionals.

I've never regretted a decision more than that in my life.

Kenkirk w/Determination. Gunner, Rebel Captive, Isard

Vader w/Outmaneuver, Homing Missile, Engine Upgrade

The Idea was "ships that can't die". Discovered that "if it bleeds, they can kill it" instead. Ended up 11th out of 12.
