K wing Konundrums - Miranada help!

By JamieSpace, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi,

So I'm taking a break for the might that is the empire and trying some rebel scum lists. I just picked up a K-wing and having a bit of trouble of what to fly it with.

I know the whole Super dash list is a good one but wanna try stay away from two lists builds.

In my mind I have a couple of lists (One note I don't have C3PO)

1:Miranda Doni (29)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Recon Specialist (3)

Chewbacca (42)
Predator (3)
Recon Specialist (3)
Jan Ors (2)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

2:Miranda Doni (29)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Recon Specialist (3)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Prototype Pilot (17)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Autothrusters (2)

3:Miranda Doni (29)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Recon Specialist (3)
Advanced SLAM (2)

Jake Farrell (24)
Push the Limit (3)
Proton Rockets (3)
Veteran Instincts (1)
[Autothrusters (2)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Tala Squadron Pilot (13)

Tala Squadron Pilot (13)

Any one had good success with her, do I need Adv Slam? Any tips on flying? Is the Warden bomber a better bet ?

Treat Miranda like a heavy poke n prod. I generally just shove a TLT on her and compliment her by bringing Poe and Tycho. It's either death by papercut or they chase the X-wing and the A-wing. If they focus her she has two allies with a respectable amount of firepower to cover her.

Miranda is my new favourite pilot. She can handle almost every situation against as many or even a few more points of firepower with ease. She's not easy to pick up though!

First, I wouldn't recommend ASLAM on her. The free bonus action is nice, but you don't want to load her up with Action bombs as she gets far too expensive. If you can squeeze in Extra Munitions and a Plasma Torpedo, though, a bonus TL to set up a boosted Torp the following round with a Focus is fantastic (five dice! plus a bonus shield when you hit, to potentially get a YV-666 down to Hull in a single attack!). Two Range 2-3 5-dice attacks are worth 5-7 points for me, but they're limited to her firing arc, which can make things difficult; I know the first few times I tried it I was far too eager to make those shots happen and made some very bad manoeuvre choices.

Second, TLT is a perfect match for her ability, but Recon Specialist isn't. Modifying both attacks is all well and good, but the thing about TLT is that against AGI1 targets, you're likely to naturally roll one attack that gets through, and against AGI2+ targets you're likely to miss one attack. Dice will be dice but that's generally how I approach it. So one Focus or Target Lock a round usually does just fine, especially since you'll be regenerating pretty frequently. It's nice to Focus that regen 2-dice TLT attack but it can be evaded pretty regularly anyway. You can get a lot more use out of different, usually unique Crew upgrades. Han, Dash, Lando, Chewie, Threepio (I mean, if you get him), and Jan all work quite well with or without teamwork. I'm partial to R2-D2 because his capacity to regenerate a shield a turn just dovetails so nicely with her own ability; against another TLT turret, Miranda will probably be taking 2 damage a turn. Once your shields are out, Artoo fires one back up, next turn you drop a die to pick up the second, and then take 2 damage. Rinse and repeat. He just happens to be in the same expansion as Threepio.

But here's the thing: she isn't just good for TLT circles and careful sniping. Be unpredictable. SLAM out of the fight every now and again to set up another attack run that favours your approach (leave clustered rocks and come back through another lane, for example). Take it nice and easy coming back, and then run in with a 3-Bank to try and get a Range 1 shot with a Focus or TL, and spend a shield to ramp your Primary up to 4 dice. This works great at finishing off wounded ships or attacking TLT Y-Wings or HWKs. PS8 is a big part of her advantage.

I like your list with VI/Prockets Jake and two Talas because you're going to have a strong advantage over other TLT lists and other Mirandas. I would drop the ASLAM, bump the RecSpec up to R2-D2 or Chewie, and leave the last point for initiative (to really get the most out of Jake). You can block Aces, shoot before 4YTLT or 4BZ, and still have four ships on the board.

Your KBBA list I would tweak a bit; my personal preference is to drop the Prototype Pilot for a Bandit to give both Blues a Fire-Control System, but that's my own play style more than any proper advantage there. An AT Prototype is always a solid buy to round out a squad.

As for your MiranBacca list, I like the idea, but I feel trying to shoehorn the Bandit in there is handicapping the two proper pilots. But I'm having trouble picking better upgrades that still have room for a third ship! I love the RecSpec/Jan combo on Chewie, that's always good, although a twist on that I've enjoyed is Dark Forces Chewie with PtL, Jan, Kyle, the Falcon title, and an Engine Upgrade. You PtL basically every turn, and every green move gives you a Focus from Kyle, that Jan can turn into an Evade, and then you can Evade anyway as an action from the title, and then either Focus or TL for damage or Boost for blocking or dodging. The only issue is that Chewie still goes down pretty quickly to concentrated fire, but can really shrug off a single attacker a round; loading him up too much may be less effective for Miranda though, because she doesn't like focussed fire either.

I hope some of that helps! Let me know what works for you or what kind of flying style you like to use. I think you're mostly in the right spot already since you're just looking at TLT and Crew for Miranda, which to me is just the right point range for her.

So I ran my Miranda and Jake list today against a Bossk and two K fighters

Did well, ran Miranda on the outside with the Zs and Jake cutting through the middle. TLT and prockets did the business but I'm not sure about Adv Slam as I didn't use it however Recon I did think came in very handy. I do like the idea of chewy crew but that double focus for both attacks and even maybe defense was key

Now is there something else better to swap Adv Slam for and keep int bid with Jake?
