Wouldn't IA make a great videogame?

By HK47, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I was thinking something along the lines of an X-Com style combat, with tactical elements and a dynamic cover and LOS system. Dice would be replaced by a fixed attack stat, but defence would be determined by where the enemy hit you from. A faction based campaign as well as a skirmish-like quick battle system would be a must, and new units would have to be added in order to ensure variety. A clever AI and complex level structure would make things challenging as well.

Well, what do you think?

Am I crazy or is it a genuninly good idea?

It's a great idea, I just actually posted about the same thing today. If they did it, I hope they'd keep it as a board game. You see the same thing with several boardgames that have digital versions. Cardhunter is a good example.

wow, I'd actually really like an X-COM style remake of the game.

Only thing is, FFG isn't EA. They already stretched their license enough to make this game.

Cardhunter is excellent.

What about a Hybrid? Digital surface technology board with effects and sounds, maybe digital tokens, but still having the tactile feeling of moving miniatures.

its a Research project im looking into.

If you haven't already, check out the digital version of Space Hulk. Called Space Hulk Ascension. Pretty cool.

Take a look at Golem Arcana. It's a hybrid minis/tablet game that computerized all the dice, health, and other bookkeeping. Definitely game of show at GenCon.
