Much like the topic title says, which objectives would you take to go along with the GenCon special?
objectives to go with GenCon special
Just pick some and have fun.
Opening Salvo or Advanced Gunnery, Fire Lanes or Contested Outpost, and Intel Sweep (use the VSD as the objective ship and have the GSD's eat the opponents objective ship
How many points does the Gencon Special run? (lazy)

I think the meta should have already surpassed that being good.
At the risk of sounding full of myself, I honestly cannot imagine losing against that, easy to outbid, and the Victory only engages if you allow it to.
(speaking from a rebel standpoint of course)
Edited by DeadshaneDoes it matter? The objective is incidental to the list, you play to wipe out your opponent and nothing much else.
Mine fields. Best funnel in the game.
Thank you everyone for the feedback!

Our best local player, Darth Lupine, likes to from ACM from one GSD to give Demolisher Engine Techs, which he makes really good use of.

Here's the thing about how it won at gencon. It (or other similar builds that had maybe a more tricked out demolisher/vic at the cost of a glad etc.) do have the POTENTIAL to table people if the opponent gets into a brawl with them. Especially imps vs imps (which I feel like there were a bit more of, I was at gencon but only looked around for a bit during armada). So out of around 100 players there were probably 20-30 of this type of archetype alone. There also were enough players to ensure 3 undefeated players, so MoV was going to matter to determine the winner. So under good conditions, this build could score 9 or 10 victory points reliably. A skilled, patient rebel player may be able to snipe some stuff and live and win, but it is a bit more difficult to table people 5 games in a row. So one of these builds was going to have everything work out for it. If it was just about getting wins, who knows.
At the Sullust event this weekend, you just need to win. A 3-0 record puts you in the final game if there are fewer than 17 players (the vast majority of these events). Even with 17-20ish, there is still only a low chance of a third 3-0, and it's not a 100% until you get to 32 players (yeah right). I like the rebels' chances a bit more this weekend.
I'm not trying to take anything away from the player that won gencon. No matter how you slice it, that isn't easy. And he did beat Paul Heaver, which has to be worth something. It's a great list in the since that it can easily crush someone who makes a critical mistake. I just wanted to point out how different formats/attendance could impact different lists.
Edited by bobbywhiskeyI do not expect lists like the one (disclaimer, this is what I usually fly, or similar) to be as good as they are now post wave two. And I think this is a good thing.

I think we're all agreed this list would rather take first player, but it's still good to have a plan against someone with a large initiative bid. This is a kill-kill list, so you want objectives that will help you with that.
For Assault my first plan would be to jump on Opening Salvo. That lets your Gladiators combo in a pair of black dice at range while closing on the enemy fleet, giving the chance to proc ACMs even at red range. You'd need to watch out for opponents with evade tokens (focussing fire may be enough to force them to discard the token or let a crit through) and keep in mind you might want to start repairing later in the game to preserve points if you've got 1-2 damage cards on any of your ships.
Defence, I like Hyperspace Assault. Without it the Victory trails behind the Gladiators and doesn't contribute as much. With Hyperspace it can show up in the backfield or on a flank around turn 2 and bring its own black dice to bear as well.
For Navigation I could go a few ways with this, but these days I'm a fan of Dangerous Territory in a lot of lists I'm putting together. In a fleet like this you've got the speed on the Gladiators to chase any objectives they skip over, or else they're forced to take criticals to keep you from building up a lead. If you send a single Gladiator away to pick up their ignored objectives then it's a strong candidate if you're looking for a "time-wasting" first activation to force them to move towards your main fleet with more of their ships, potentially leaving them in black dice range of your other Gladiators.
Agreed with Arkhin on his obejctive selection, they really seem synergetic with the list.
I played this list (and ended up winning) at a tournament the other week with opening salvo, hyperspace assault and dangerous teratory. I got second player twice and both times my opponent picked opening salvo, and throwing 2 red and 2 black at long range with ACM is just rude, especially when it's followed by 4 black dice at close range from the Demolisher!

It works very well and can be devastating to the opponent but you would need to be first player to make it work right
I agree, that's why I try not to let Darth Lupine get the initiative.

Takes a tone of effort and is scary as hell but as you get the hang of it, his winning ratio will go down.
one thing I learned about fighting GSDs:
NEVERNEVERNEVERNEVERNEVER EVER choose an objective with objective markers
GSDs love nothing better than knowing exactly where you have to go
Dangerous Territory is an exception, though. That extra damage they take can really help kill them off
so, apply this knowledge about what not to do against GSDs and flip it around to know what you're supposed to do with GSDs ![]()
my final match at my last tournament tournament had a gencon special soaring above the competition in M.O.V with Intel Sweep, Firing Lanes, and Advanced Gunnery (in our group, if it isn't ship spam, it's VSD + Demolisher with squadrons and an absurd bid)
his previous opponents did not know how to default to Advanced Gunnery ![]()
I disagree ficklegreendice. I LOVE Intel Sweep. Knowing where that GSD has to come. . . So nice. . .

Even with a couple GSD's I am not worried. Got to focus on one thing at a time
