Rookie List

By ThePinkyBrains, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello all, I'm new to this forum and still relatively new to x wing. I have a decent amount of ships, but still learning to actually fly them. Here is a list that I tried once (and lost) but I think it has potential:

Carnor Jax

push the limit

29

Academy Pilot x3

36

Omicron Group Pilot

ion cannon

engine upgrade

advanced sensors

fleet officer

intelligence agent

35

Any thoughts?

Don't know too much about the shuttle, but I think maybe taking off some upgrades to free up point's for Jax's survivability (stealth device, autothrusters, hull/shield upgrades) is a good bet. That being said, I am a huge TIE Interceptor fan, so I always try to upgrade mine as much as possible.

I wantd to use 3 ties, an interceptor, and the shuttle because I normally play against 2-3 rebel or scum ships. The tie fighter mentality is pretty well ingrained in my head lol. The problem I have is that I end up with a weird number of points after I get what I think are the essentials:

Carnor Jax

push the limit

Academy pilot x 3

Omicron Group Pilot

ion cannon

89

But you are suggesting splurge on the interceptor rather than the shuttle?

That's what I like to do, but then again, I don't have a shuttle myself and don't really know their strengths or weaknesses. Maybe try splurging on the Interceptor once or twice, and then choose whichever fits your play style better.

I agree with RC that Jax at least needs some sort of mod. Since he's going to spend a good bit of time at range 1 to make use of his ability, autothrusters might not be as useful as a hull/shield. I would definitely go with at least a stealth device.

If you're using the Ion Cannon, I would highly recommend also getting the Rebel Captive. That way, if someone shoots your shuttle and gets stressed, you can hit them with the Ion and they'll have to spend 2 turns to clear the stress.

Also, maybe consider upgrading one of the TIEs to Dark Curse or Backstabber. They're cheap but can really help draw some fire away from Jax.

I like this idea a lot. Ideally I'm trying to ionize something for either the ties or Jax to pounce on (in my last game it was an a-wing). In my original list, I invested in maneuverability for the shuttle, but I think that parking early and going slow might be better and it frees up 7 points.
