Best way to take 3 Victories in 300?

By Lord Vithiss, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I am Having a difficult time deciding which kind of imperial fleet i would like to take to Sullust. I Am thinking that three victories would be difficult to table and that they can pump out a lot of fire power. I also believe that a small 32 pt investment for 4 squadrons of tie fighters to hold off enemy bombers for a couple turns could be crucial.

My question is who is better for a commander, Screed, Tarkin or Motti? Which of these fleets would you choose?

In this fleet, the victory 2's have more range and more chances of getting accuracy to negate braces.

Motti EMPIRE FLEET (299 points)
1 • Victory II-class Star Destroyer (85)
2 • Victory II-class Star Destroyer (85)
3 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer - Admiral Motti (97)
4 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
5 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
6 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
7 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
8 • Objectives - Advanced Gunnery - Contested Outpost - Minefields (0)

This fleet has less durability but will maul targets up close.

Screed EMPIRE FLEET (298 points)
1 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer - Admiral Screed - Assault Concussion Missiles (106)
2 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer - Assault Concussion Missiles (80)
3 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer - Assault Concussion Missiles (80)
4 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
5 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
6 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
7 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
8 • Objectives - Advanced Gunnery - Contested Outpost - Minefields (0)

This fleet has more flexibility to mitigate the high command stacks of each of these ships by effectively splitting their dials in half.

Tarkin EMPIRE FLEET (298 points)

1 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer - Grand Moff Tarkin - Defense Liaison (114)
2 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer - Weapons Liaison (76)
3 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer - Weapons Liaison (76)
4 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
5 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
6 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
7 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
8 • Objectives - Advanced Gunnery - Contested Outpost - Minefields (0)

I wouldn't be ballzy enough to use it but I like the Screed Fleet. Screed + ACM = Amazingly awesome squad that is super frustrating to play against.

I don't care for screed myself; I'm a motti man. I'm also not convinced ties are the way to go. The whole point of a 3xVSD list is points denial. you give that up when you run a handful of ties without any tools for really maximising them. I say roll 3 Vics and just do your best to keep them from dying. That being said, I haven't playtested it against a strong fighter wing (but I plan to tonight).

I think the way to play 3 Vics might be to slow roll them up in a "V" formation. Have a Vic 1 at the back that can respond either port/starboard to anyone trying to flank you. Taking 4+ turns to get around to your backside when you have 2 tiers of Star Destroyers is going to be tough, and very hard for them to earn victory points (no pun intended) When you''ve got a 3rd vic playing zone. Meanwhile, anything to the front/middle of you is going to get mauled.

I'd make all 3 Vic1s, put enhanced arms on all 3 and Dominator on the one playing rear zone (which would also be the flag ship).

That gives you 15 points for a couple extra things, as well as initiative bid. You could put ACMs on the rear Vic (Dominator) to make him even scarier. That still leaves you an 8 pt. initiative bid.

30 hull :-) And only real good way to attack is down the back, which will take at least 3 turns to get there. Achilles heel is squadrons, but Dominator can be called upon to help deal with fat B/Rhymer Balls.

While enhanced armament seems like a good Idea, I don't think that it would be worth the 30 points. Most likely the enemy wont split their fleet and you will only really get use out of 1 extra red dice if they commit to one side.

The plan with the ties is really just to screen the vics from heavy bomber lists, sending one or two in at a time just to cause them to attack the tie rather than the vics. I may drop the vic 2's down to vic 1's and add Dominator.
