(Off Topic) Sabine Wren in SW:Rebels

By Kyla, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

So, there has been interesting rumblings throughout the internet about Sabine, and I have to admit - it seems really likely!

Background:

It all starts with Disney's cancellation of the Clone Wars when they took over. Dave Filloni and crew had scripts, story boards, and pre-vis work on Clone Wars episodes and story arcs all the way through seasons 6, 7 and 8 (when the show was originally slated to end) detailing the arcs they wanted to include. Since season 6 was most of the way through production, they finished those episodes and they now appear on Netflix as "the Missing Tales" along with seasons 1-5 of the Clone Wars.

Season 7 was almost fully scripted and even had some pre-vis animation done (you can see some of it here). They took these scripts and handed them over to other parts of the Mouse House to be developed in different ways. A story arc involving Quilan Vos and Assaj Ventress is being converted into a novel coming out called "Dark Disciple," while the final story arc for Maul was converted and published as the Dark Horse comic series "Sons of Dathomir." This comic series is where it gets juicy.

The Reveal:

In this series, we see Maul and his Shadow Syndicate waging a hidden war on Sidious and Tyranus, enabling Maul to get revenge on his former master and prove himself superior to his "replacement." Maul's chief lieutenants in this endeavor are a pair of Mandalorian Supercommandos; Commander Saxon (Maul's right hand mando) and Rook Kast. It's Rook Kast in this one that is the interesting bit - not just because of the fan-girl geek out opportunity involving the reference to Jodo Kast either. Rook Kast is rumored to be Sabine Wren's mom!

The Evidence:

A few things make this seem really plausible!

People's Exhibit #1: Here's a picture of Rook Kast's helmet & Sabine's next to each other;

star-wars-darth-maul-son-of-dathomir03-1

Obviously not the same helmet itself, but if you'll note the similarity in the artwork on it. Dave Filloni has twice mentioned that her helmet was a gift and the only part of her style she never repainted (once in answering a question on his twitter feed, and again in one of the Disney XD vidoes hosted on the Star Wars Rebels facebook page). This makes it reasonable that if Sabine's mother were to have given her a helmet that bore the same design that her own did, it fits that the symbol could directly tie the two characters!

People's Exhibit #2: Birds. Both Rook and Wren are birds, as well the imagery on their helmets has a very avian look to it. Even her choice symbol is that of the Wren, showing that the tie to birds is definitely important. Being part of the underworld like both Rook and Sabine are, it's reasonable to assume that they would adopt names as alias' to better cover their tracks, meaning that despite the lack of common last names, they may be related if Sabine took a name to reflect her interest in avian wildlife.

People's Exhibit #3: Mostly a counter-point, in that it is often said that Sabine could be Bo-Katan's daughter (which even I subscribed to until Dave Filloni squashed it). He has on multiple occasions stated that Sabine isn't related to the Kryze's - which rules out both Satine and Bo-Katan.

Interesting idea would love if they developed this but hopefully what they have planned will be at least as good as this!

I think I have to mark all your text, because light pink on a white background is really painful to try to read.

I suggest picking a darker shade of pink or maby even a completely different colour in the future

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to mark your entire post with Ctrl+A and actually try to read it.

Now, having read the topic, all I can say is that I hope she's not related to someone famous.

I genuinely despise all the tie-ins that are done in SW in general.
Everyone seems to be related to everyone else somehow.

The heroes from the movies keep popping up everywhere and all the time.
And if it's not an actual famous person, then someone is related to them somehow.

Why can't we just get a completely fresh set of heroes that aren't related to anyone special and haven't met any of the other main heroes?

It's ranked right above the pet peeve of revisiting the same darned planets in every single movie/book/comic when there's a billion planets out there to explore and discover (although that was one thing they did better in TCW compared to the EU in general)

Honestly, in some cases it's too much, in others too little. Replacing Naboo with Alderaan would've been a good call, for example. I mean, we'd literally have Death Star vs. Jar Jar Binks. Tarkin would be completely justified!

That said, I think this one is a bit far fetched currently. There's too little information for my tastes to give a yay or a nay on it, and most of it is highly, well, circumstantial. On a meta level? Possible, but also very possible they're entirely unrelated. Who knows? Maybe Sabine just nicked that particular armour.

I've discussed this before but replacing Naboo with Alderaan would have been an incredibly bad idea. Even if Tarkin had been willing to destroy Palpatine's homeworld do you really think the Death Star crew would have followed that order?

Maybe Palpatine wouldn't have cared if his homeworld is destroyed but the regular Imperial officers and crew will naturally think that the destruction of his homeworld would make Palpatine furious and finding enough crew willing to risk what Plpatine could do to them, their loved ones and their own homeworlds if they are involved in destroying Palpatine's homeworld and the destruction angers him wouldn't be easy.

Depends how it's done. If there are too many connections it makes the galaxy smaller. If there are too few it creates a lack of cohesiveness. I think WEG did it poorly, TCW (or more precisely, Filoni) did it well, and since Filoni is in charge of Rebels, I have high hopes for Rebels there as they've already introduced some good new characters.

I'm sure they think about this kind of thing and know they have to strike a good balance.

I feel like I'm the only one with no issues with the pink text.

I agree that the pink text could stand to be darker, but my eyes are good enough that it doesn't bother me too much. If it makes Kyla happy, then I can deal.

I would prefer if any Sabine Backstory focuses more on her rebelling from the imperial controlled mandalore. I want to see how the empire tries to direct the newly rekindled warrior spirit from the clone wars into the new order. I think that would be far more interesting than any link to Darth Maul. Not every character need be linked to an existing one.

I read the pink text fine

Well, the pink text strains my eyes.

Maby it's my settings or something?

Is it possible to change the background colour or theme of the forums?

Yes. At the very bottom of the forum, you should see a link that says "Change Theme" - Pick the "FFG" one (not the "FFG New" one) and you get the old gray background theme.

Oh god, that's waaaaaaaaaaay better!

Now I can read the pink text easily.

Do note though, Kyla, that with the default theme, it's quite a strain to read that pink.

So someone else might complain in the future (but pass on this handy tip if they do)

Or you could have just read my signature?

:P

So...we're supposed to change the theme of the entire site to suit your choice of colour? What if somebody else we like to read chooses a colour that doesn't play well with that theme?

I like what you post just fine, I just think the whole font thing is self-centred.

You can do whatever you would like, just like I can do whatever I like. Really doesn't matter to me either way - but because people bring it up I give them an alternative to being frustrated. I'm no more telling you to do something than you are telling me I can't, so stop making personal attacks.
